Hamilton declared on Instagram that he will continue to use his standing as a six-time world champion to promote his views.

Six-times Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton said he would not let up on using his platform to campaign for racial justice as the sport’s governing body confirmed there would be no investigation into his actions at the Tuscan Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver wore a black T-shirt on Sunday declaring “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor” on the front of it and ‘say her name” on the back over a photograph of the slain emergency room technician.

In a post on Instagram, the Briton told his 20 million followers: “want you to know that I won’t stop, I won’t let up, I won’t give up on using this platform to shed light on what I believe is right.

“This is a journey for all of us to come together and challenge the world on every level of injustice, not only racial,” he added.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was killed by police officers who burst into her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, in March.

One police officer involved was fired by the city’s police department in June. Two other officers have been placed on administrative reassignment. No criminal charges have been filed against any of the three.

A spokesman for the governing FIA said there would be no formal investigation into Hamilton’s actions and Formula One’s only Black driver, on the cusp of becoming the most successful racer of all time, faced no punishment.

For that to happen, the race stewards at Italy’s Mugello circuit should have been notified of a possible breach of the rules and that was not the case.

Hamilton is actively engaged with the FIA and Formula One on anti-racism and diversity campaigns, enjoys the full support of his Mercedes team and has a profile far above other drivers on social media.

Every race is preceded by an officially-sanctioned statement by all drivers against racism, with some taking a knee while others stand. Hamilton had knelt and worn a ‘Black Lives Matter’ shirt at races before Mugello.

The FIA’s International sporting code bars “political or religious” advertising on cars but makes no mention of what drivers are allowed to do.

The spokesman said the governing body would consider whether a protocol was needed in future.

ROME: Novak Djokovics first match since being defaulted from the U.S. Open will come against local wild-card entry Salvatore Caruso in the second round of the Italian Open.

The 87th-ranked Caruso defeated American qualifier Tennys Sandgren 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) Tuesday in the opening round at the empty Foro Italico, where fans are being kept away because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Caruso saved a match point late in the third set before closing it out after nearly three hours on a steamy 32 degree Celsius (90 degree F) day.

The top-ranked Djokovic, who had a first-round bye, said Monday that he learned a big lesson after he was thrown out of the tournament in New York for unintentionally hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball.

Djokovic beat Caruso in straight sets in their only career meeting in the third round of last year’s French Open.

In other matches on Rome’s red clay, U.S. Open quarterfinalists Andrey Rublev and Denis Shapovalov both won in straight sets.

Rublev eliminated Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 6-4; then Shapovalov was even more efficient in a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Guido Pella.

Alex de Minaur another U.S. Open quarterfinalist was tentative and wasted numerous chances in a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) loss to German qualifier Diminik Koepfer.

Also, Argentine qualifier Federico Coria, the younger brother of 2005 Rome runner-up Guillermo Coria, beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 7-6 (5). Coria will next face local favorite Matteo Berrettini, the No. 4 seed.

In the womens tournament, Katerina Siniakova rolled past three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-1; and last years French Open finalist, Markta Vondrouov, held off a comeback from Japanese qualifier Misaki Doi to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Washington:

President Donald Trump, in his latest shredding of political niceties, suggested Tuesday that his Democratic opponent Joe Biden has taken drugs to improve his performance in debates.

The Republican, who is well behind in the polls, initially insinuated during a Fox News interview that "something was strange" with what he saw as Biden's improvement during the Democratic primary season debates.

Early on, when there were multiple Democratic candidates lined up on stage, Biden was "a disaster" and "grossly incompetent," Trump said. But at a later debate where Biden was one-on-one with leftist rival Bernie Sanders, "he was OK."

Trump told Fox he didn't want to say what he thought was the reason for the improvement.

Seconds later, he did.

"He's taking something or you know, gives him some clarity, or whatever," he said.

Trump repeated his demand that Biden should undergo a drug test before their first of three presidential debates scheduled for September 29.

"I would take one too," he said.

Trump, 74, has for months tried to persuade voters that Biden, 77, is suffering from mental decline.

The former businessman cites Biden's penchant for gaffes -- which some believe to be linked to the Democrat's lifelong struggle with stuttering -- and his reluctance to face unscripted questioning from reporters.

Trump -- who takes questions from reporters almost daily but is known for his own frequently garbled and baffling statements -- said, "Joe is lost. We can't have a president that is mentally lost."

Trump told Fox that, with attacks from the Democrat side gaining intensity, he will now "take the gloves off."

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday that an Assembly session cannot be convened at a time when coronavirus cases were peaking in the coastal state.

Speaking to reporters here, Sawant, also the Education Minister, said that the Goa government had not yet taken any decision on reopening the schools.

"There can be no Assembly at present when the cases are at their highest. The Budget has been passed... the Speaker can call an Assembly session in consultation with all parties," Sawant said.

"We have not said that we are starting schools. We will first consult the Headmasters Association, the Parent-Teacher Associations, management committees and only then take a decision," the Chief Minister said.

On Monday, former Deputy Chief Minister and opposition MLA Sudin Dhavalikar had written to the acting Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, urging him to convene an Assembly session to discuss critical issues like the state's alleged inability to handle the pandemic, ongoing Mhadei interstate water dispute, and continued ban on mining in the state.

Goa has 25,511 confirmed cases, of which 315 patients have died ever since the pandemic broke out in March.
