Panaji: The COVID death count rose to 315 in Goa as 11 more deaths associated with the dreaded virus were registered in the last 24 hours. Of these 11 deaths, nine have been reported at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim, while two deaths occurred at Margao-based COVID hospital. One patient expired within just an hour after being admitted to GMC.
According to the mortality bulletin issued by GMC, a majority of the patients had developed bilateral pneumonia and the most common pre-existing co-morbid illnesses among the victims were diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
The bulletin said that a 27-year-old woman from Bicholim, who passed away, was suffering from diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease.
A 68-year-old man from Margao, who died did not have any co-morbid condition. However, he had developed bilateral COVID pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
An 83-year-old man from Paroda in Salcete taluka, who had only hypertension, also passed away, while an 82-year-old man from Vasco, who had co-morbidities like diabetes mellitus and hypertension, also died.
The fatalities also include an 82-year-old woman from Quepem, who was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypertension; a 34-year-old man from Baga in Calangute, who had obesity; a 52-year-old man from Santa Cruz, who was suffering from hypertension and a 55-year-old woman from Dabolim, who was suffering from hypertension and hypothyroidism.
The remaining three patients include a 90-year-old man from Khorlim Mapusa, who had suffered a head injury; a 79-year-old man from Porvorim, who had illnesses like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dementia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a 72-year-old woman from Amona in Bicholim taluka, who was suffering from hypertension.
