The 55-year-old Canadian citizen of Indian origin had two heart valves successfully replaced without open-heart surgery. A team of doctors led by Heart Specialist Doctor Ravindra Singh Rao in Jaipur used transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) techniques. This is the first case of Asia and India when two valves have been replaced simultaneously.
According to the doctors, the patient suffering from many heart diseases was having trouble breathing, while doing his routine as well as doing a little work. He was admitted to the hospital in his hometown in Chandigarh due to heart failure. The drug did not work due to the shrinking of both valves. The doctors were only suggesting valve replacement for this. Dr. Rao replaced both the mitral and aortic valves of the patient via TAVI and TMVR without operation.
