More than 1,000 candidates take up online entrance exam at MSU

MADURAI: More than 1,000 PhD and M Phil aspirants took up the online entrance examination on Monday to qualify for July 2020 research programmes at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU), Tirunelveli.
The candidates were given the flexibility to take up the 90-minute test anytime between 10am and 5pm.
The one-mark questions were expected to be answered one after the other, with no option to return to the previous question. Despite the measure, some reportedly used mobile phone internet to look for answers.
Several candidates also faced technical difficulties from logging in to the beginning of the test.
Considering poor internet connectivity and other related issues, candidates were given three logout options. “Logging in after three times of logging out was not allowed. However, due to server issues at the university the page automatically logged out thrice,” an aspirant said, adding that she could only answer around 40 questions.
Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university K Pitchumani said 95% of a total of 1,150 candidates took up the exam on Monday. “The rest, who could not attend due to technical issues, will be given a second chance to take up the test on Tuesday,” added the VC.
