GURUGRAM: A 60-year-old resident was allegedly duped of Rs 1.24 crore by a woman impersonating as an officer of the US Army.
Dhirendra Kumar, a resident of Chakkarpur’s Maruti Vihar, said he met the woman on a social media platform who claimed to have been working with the US Army.
The woman told Kumar she planned to open a pharmaceutical company in India and he agreed to become a partner. On July 19, he was asked to pay Rs 1.24 crore for a package being delivered to him from the US.
“I paid the amount but after that her phone was switched off. Realising that I have been cheated, I informed police,” Kumar said. A case has been registered at Cyber police station.
