The Ministry of Tourism has declared the introduction of the second phase of the Skills Development Programme. It’s funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation between 2020-2024 in the provinces of Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri.
This programme will primarily aim on offering vocational training for the young, unskilled professionals from the five provinces which have been targeted at boosting up incomes and expanding human resources tourism.
On Friday, the launch took place at Mondulkiri Provincial Hall. It was managed by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism Pak Sokhom, deputy governor of Mondulkiri province, Cheak Mengheang and director of SDP of the Swiss Confederation Christian Volker Ide.
Sokhom while delivering speech at the launch, said that Phase 2 of the SDP will mainly focus on tourism sector vocational education and training, in particular in hospitality sector.
“The programme will help young men and women to develop real professional skills and contribute to human resource development within tourism. This will, in turn, allow them to access decent employment opportunities and improve their livelihoods,” he said.
He mentioned that the northeast provinces have been witnessing a major rise in tourism of late and this training should help in making the most on this surge.
Mengheang has further added that vocational education within tourism will be instrumental in making sure young people can enter the market just after completing graduation or have the opportunity and skills to start small businesses.
