10 movies and shows coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar and more this week

Jon Snow is back on our screens this week, and so are these other incredible shows and movies

We don’t know what the stars have in store for you this upcoming week, but we do know that there are some exciting new titles coming to your favourite OTT platforms this week that you can add to your watchlist. From Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar’s fiery combination in Dolly Kitty Our Woh Chamakte Sitare, to an intriguing crime drama that promises to bring back Kit Harrington into our Game Of Thrones’ deprived lives, this week has many exciting titles for you to choose from. 

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (Releases September 18)

Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar star as the titular sisters in this comedy by director Alankrita Shrivastava, who also directed Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016). The plot revolves around the two women who don’t want to live by the rules set by society for women, and lead secret lives that can help them realise their big dreams. The film also stars Kubbra Sait, Karan Kundra, Vikrant Massey, and Amol Pareshar.

Ratched Season 1 (Releases September 18)

One of pop culture’s most terrifying characters, Nurse Mildred Ratched, is getting an origin story with a web series starring Sarah Paulson as the titular character. Based on the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, the show takes us back to 1947, when Nurse Ratched first applied for a job at a leading psychiatric hospital that was known to conduct new and unsettling experiments on human mind. It promises to show us her journey towards becoming the evil monster that we know (and fear).

Holly Slept Over (Releases September 18)

The comedy stars Game of Throne’s Nathalie Emmanuel as the titular Holly, whose unexpected appearance at the house of married couple Noel and Audrey turns their lives upside down. This is not your regular romantic comedy, according to the makers, and promises to be a fun watch over the weekend.

Our Cartoon President season 3 (Releases September 14)

The third season of one of Stephen Colbert’s most popular recurring segment is going to premiere this week. The animated series chronicles the misadventures of US President Donald Trump in the White House and his personal life with his friends and family. This season will, obviously, focus on the upcoming elections and the Trump government’s horrific mishandling of the COVID crisis. You can spot some familiar personalities, like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Dr Anthony Fauci, along with other popular figures.

Challenger: The Final Flight (Releases September 16)

On January 28, 1986, NASA was all set to claim a notable win after the launch of the space shuttle Challenger, but as we all know now, it ended in horrible tragedy. All seven crew members on board died after the Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into the flight. This four-part documentary series focuses on the tragic disaster and investigates the possible reasons behind the incident. It will include never-before-seen interviews and rare archival material that gives an insight into one of NASA’s most diverse crews, including the first Asian-American astronaut, the first African-American astronaut, and a high school teacher, who was chosen to be the first private citizen in space.

The Third Day (Releases September 15)

The miniseries is divided into three parts: Summer, Autumn, and Winter. ‘Summer’ stars Jude Law, as a character who finds himself stranded on the mysterious island of Osea where nothing is as it seems. ‘Winter’ stars No Time To Die’s Naomie Harris as the mother of two girls, who also find themselves on Osea as part of a poorly planned birthday celebration. If you loved last year’s wonderfully disturbing Midsommar, then you should definitely give this one a go.

Becoming (Releases September 18)

Basketball legend LeBron James has partnered with Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Philip Byron to produce a docuseries that will chronicle the life and upbringing of some of the world’s most famous athletes, and entertainers. Each episode will visit a celebrity’s hometown and visit some key locations that had an impact on the person’s life. It will also focus insights and anecdotes from their family members, coaches, teachers, and mentors.

Sing On (Releases September 16)

If there’s one thing that Netflix does really well, it is making intensely binge-able reality shows. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tituss Burgess hosts this new reality show where contestants face-off to see who can sing popular songs and get most lyrics accurate. This will be measured by a ‘vocal analyser’ that will judge who sang the song closest to the original. The eight episode-show will see contestants vie for a maximum price of $60,000.

The Devil All the Time (Releases September 16)

Based on the novel of the same name by Donald Ray Pollock, the psychological thriller film features an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgard, Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, Haley Bennett, and Sebastian Stan. The story revolves around Arvin (Tom Holland), who has to fight the evil in his hometown of rural souther Ohio, including an unholy priest, a serial killer couple, and a corrupt sheriff, to protect his family.

Criminal UK Season 2 (Releases September 16)

The second season of Netflix's severely underrated crime drama is going to premiere this week and it stars Game of Thrones’ actor Kit Harrington and Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar. The show takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interrogation room. It’s an anthology series where police and suspects square off against each other in an interrogation room. It spans four European countries, including the UK, France, Spain, and Germany. Each country gets three episode each and the set-up is same every time. The first season star David Tennant and Hayley Atwell.
