Gurgaon: Gurgaon cyber police on Saturday busted a three-member gang who used to cheat people in the name of insurance policy.
According to police, the gang was active for last one year and had duped people from all across the country. “The gang used to call people pretending to be representatives of insurance companies and lure them with various offers. After convincing the victim to buy the insurance policy, the trio used to send a link through e-mail or SMS asking them to make payment by clicking on the link,” a police officer said.
“As soon as the target clicked on the link their mobile phone was compromised and the accused got remote access to their phones and transferred the money through HDFC Bank gateway,” said inspector Jasveer Kumar, SHO, cyber police station.
A team from cyber police station arrested Dharmesh Thakur (38), a resident of Delhi, from Faridabad on Friday. He was the mastermind of the gang. During interrogation Dharmesh revealed the names of his associates, and police arrested Akash Verma from Ghaziabad and Deepak Sharma from New Delhi on Saturday.
