SALEM: Founder president of the Samathuva Makkal Katchi (SMK) R Sarathkumar on Monday said he would welcome actor Rajinikanth if the latter starts a political party.
“Rajinikanth can have an alliance with the SMK, if he wishes, after starting his party as I have been in politics for more than 14 years,” Sarathkumar said while talking to reporters in Salem.
The actor-turned-politician came to Salem to attend various events, including the wedding of an SMK member.
Replying to a question, Sarathukumar said, “Tamil Nadu students did not prepare well for NEET. Nearly 13% of the students wrote the exam with fear.”
He urged the Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to pressurise the central government to abolish NEET in Tamil Nadu.
Sarathkumar said his party workers were requesting him to contest the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha byelection. The seat became vacant after the death of H Vasanthakumar. “But my target is the coming assembly elections, and my journey will be towards that,” he said.
He praised the CM for his efforts to curb Covid-19 in the state.
