CHANDIGARH: Punjab reported 2,496 fresh cases of
Covid-19 on Monday while the virus claimed the lives of 70 more people.
Six districts -- Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Amritsar, Mohali and Ropar -- accounted for 70% of total cases reported in the last 24 hours.
So far, 82,113 people tested positive in the state while the Covid-19 death count stands at 2,424. The health department removed two duplicate deaths entries added in the tally of September 13. Besides that, 56 duplicate entries and four cases belonging to other states were also removed from the states tally.
The state's fatality rate stands at 2.95%, which will rise further as 85 people in critical condition are on ventilator support while 544 patients are on oxygen support.
Of 70 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 14 people lost their lives in Ferozepur, 11 in Ludhiana and six each in Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Patiala. Five deaths each were reported in Jalandhar, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala, three is Fatehgarh Sahib, two each in Sangrur, Mohali and one each in Bathinda, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar and Nawanshahr.
Our total fresh cases, the highest of 408 -- highest number of cases recorded in a district in a day-- were reported in Mohali, 387 in Patiala, 307 in Ludhiana and 281 in Amritsar. As many as 261 people were tested positive in Jalandhar and 100 in Ropar.
Test reports of 98 people came positive in Pathankot, 89 in Bathinda, 88 in Hoshiarpur, 81 in Sangrur, 65 in Muktsar, 58 in Kapurthala, 50 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 40 in Gurdaspur, 31 in Faridkot, 28 in Ferozepur, 29 in Mansa, 27 in Fazilka, 23 in Moga, 20 in Tarn Taran, 13 in Nawanshahr and 11 in Barnala.
A total of 1,463 people were discharged after recovering, taking the tally of patients discharged 58,999. Of them, 396 were discharged in Ludhiana, 142 in Amritsar, 129 in Patiala, 125 in Jalandhar, 119 in Bathinda, 87 in Kapurthala, 76 in Pathankot, 73 in Moga, 69 in Mansa, 43 in Sangrur, 41 in Faridkot, 38 in Tarn Taran, 35 in Muktsar, 20 in Barnala, 17 in Ropar, 14 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 15 in Nawanshahr, 13 in Fazilka and 11 in Gurdaspur.
