MUMBAI: Jogeshwari Police recently registered a first information report against an 18-year-old teen reportedly for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old whom he befriended on social media two years ago and was in regular touch through this medium. In January this year, the accused called the survivor to his place saying no one was home and he sexually assaulted her.
The case was registered on September 11 after the incident was observed when the minor was admitted at a nursing home in Santacruz for postnatal treatment after she gave birth to a boy at home. “The survivor went to the accused’s home where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. She realised that she is pregnant three months later. On September 11, she delivered a boy at her home after which she was admitted to a nursing home in Santacruz,” said a police officer.
Police recorded the survivor’s statement after the maternity home called them after learning that she is a minor. A case has been registered under the IPC section for 376 (rape) and sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of the POCSO Act. A police probe is on to arrest the accused.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
