Ant and Dec have explained that they "pitched a lot of castles" ahead of this year's series of I'm a Celebrity.

The presenting duo made the admission during Steve and Karen's Breakfast Show on TFM this morning (September 14).

The Saturday Night Takeway hosts appeared on the Newcastle radio show to promote their new book 'Once Upon a Tyne' which marks their 30th anniversary in showbusiness.

Their award-winning career has seen them presenting hit programmes such as Britain's Got Talent and I'm a Celebrity.

The latter is set to return to ITV later this autumn but will this year be filmed in North Wales.

This relocation - a result of the Covid-19 pandemic - was mentioned on Steve and Karen's Breakfast Show.

Host Steve Furnell complained that "no one can pronounce" the new location - Gwrych Castle in Abergele.

And he even appeared offended that the duo were going to broadcast from Conwy, instead of in Tyne and Wear.

The radio host said there's "tonnes of castles up here" - with Newcastle itself named after its own fortress.

Dec agreed that there were options in their native area, proposing filming on the island of Lindisfarne.

Ant and Dec
Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly - aka Ant and Dec - have revealed that they 'pitched' ideas for I'm a Celebrity's relocation

Ant explained that the pair had recommended locations up for the new series, adding "we tried."

He commented: "We pitched a lot of castles, don't worry."

And although Steve was disappointed by the relocation, he admitted it "brings new life to the show."

Responding to this, Ant said: "There's real curiosity over what it's gonna be like, particularly for us."

He however warned viewers not to judge the new series before seeing what producers have in store.

The 44-year-old said: "We're used to it being one way, but let's just see what happens."

Sadly, Ant and Dec were unable to comment on the line-up rumours, like Selling Sunset's Christine Quinn.

Other celebrities tipped to be involved include Scott Disick, Major Charles Ingram and Lucy Fallon.

They teased that "the casting looks really strong so far" though - with the official cast to be revealed soon.

I'm a Celebrity, broadcast live from Gwrych Castle, will air on ITV later this autumn.
