The civic-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital accounts for more than 50% of the 1,039 deaths in Pimpri Chinchwad. Officials attributed this high share to most patients being admitted to the hospital at a critical stage, not giving them much scope for medical intervention. “Many a time, patients are brought dead, while sometimes, they are at such a critical stage that saving them becomes an impossible task,” PCMC additional commissioner Santosh Patil further said.
