Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday saluted all the dignitaries who contributed to its empowerment on Hindi Divas and called upon the countrymen to use Hindi more and more with their mother tongue.

On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly approved Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the country along with English. After this, the government of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country, decided to celebrate September 14 every year as 'Hindi Day' keeping in mind the importance of this historic day. The first official Hindi day was observed on 14 September 1953.

While wishing Happy Day, Mr. Shah wrote several tweets, "Hindi is an unbreakable part of Indian culture." It has been an effective and powerful medium of national unity and identity since the freedom struggle. The greatest strength of Hindi is its scientificness, originality, and simplicity. The new education policy of the Modi government will lead to the parallel development of Hindi and other Indian languages.

He further wrote, "A country is identified by its border and geography, but its biggest identity is its language. The various languages and dialects of India are its strength as well as a symbol of its unity. In India, which is full of cultural and linguistic diversity, 'Hindi' has been working to unify the whole nation in centuries.

In another tweet, Mr. Shah wrote, "Today, on the occasion of Hindi Day, I salute all the dignitaries who have contributed to its empowerment and also call upon the countrymen that along with their mother tongue, more and more of Hindi. Take a pledge to contribute to the conservation and promotion of them. Happy Hindi Day.
