Gurgaon: Alumni of IIT-Delhi have come up with a mobile app to help students of government schools gain access to online education. The app, named Vidya, will provide free access to subjects for Classes 6 to 12 of different state boards and CBSE. Teachers will be able to monitor, supervise and evaluate the students through the app.
The app, according to its developers, is aimed at bridging the digital gap between students of private and government schools.
Vidya app will have videos of chapters from each subject as well as educational videos for those preparing for competitive examinations. It will feature motivational videos from IIT alumni who have been successful in the corporate world or as entrepreneurs.
Dr Shiv Singh Rawat, superintending engineer, Gurgaon irrigation and water resources department, who studied in IIT Delhi, said that the app was launched in association with another IIT Delhi alumnus Gaurav Goyal and Neev, a social and educational initiative of IIT Delhi alumni.
“The app will help children learn in far-flung areas and lay the foundation for innovations,” Rawat said, adding that the app will have videos to learn English language too.
The app was first launched in government schools of Palwal and Gurgaon districts.
“It will be operationalised later throughout the state,” said Rawat.
He added that teachers can register on the app through their schools and can evaluate the progress of children.
“The educational videos were prepared by trained teachers from across the country,” said Rawat.
