Telangana needs to broaden outlook and explore tourism potential for generating revenue

While implementing welfare measures for the deserving people, the Telangana government should broaden its outlook and explore tourism potential for generating good revenue. Tourism sector in the state has been grossly neglected, although it has tremendous potential to bring in direct and indirect jobs, filling the coffers of the State.

Even though six years have passed by, not much effort has been made to boost tourism sector in the State. Although tourism is growing in leaps and bounds globally, here if one wants to go for a day’s outing, there are hardly any proper places or facilities. The basic infrastructural issues are not yet sorted. There is systemic neglect and lack of interest from the government.

Tourism promotion isn’t easy. It requires synergy among various players, both government and private. A few five-star hotels, spas and resorts cannot attract tourists. This sector has been most disorganized and there has been no professional approach to turn it into a money earning sector.

Government officials cannot boost tourism in the State alone. Unless there is professionalism and the public and private sectors work in unison, the tourism sector can never grow in the State.
