The active caseload remains a little above 47 thousand, which shows a continuous decline for the past many days. Meanwhile, the state government is taking steps to increase the intake of students in higher education.
AIR correspondent reports that the prevailing pandemic might have cast a spell of uncertainties on regular classes this year. But that is not an impediment for the launch of new colleges. The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Collegiate Education has issued orders for the opening of seven new Government arts and science colleges in the state.
They include one women’s college near Coimbatore and the six others in Karur, Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Ariyalur, Nagappattinam and Ranipet districts. The admission for the colleges will be made this academic year itself, with five bachelor degree courses each to begin with. The process of procuring land for the seven new colleges also has been set in motion by the government.
