CRPF jawan kills wife, commits suicide in Jammu

JAMMU: A CRPF jawan shot his wife late on Saturday night with his service rifle and injured his sister-in-law, in a fit of anger, on the outskirts of Jammu. He then shot himself with the same weapon, police said.
The couple had had an altercation and the woman had left home and had gone to her sister’s place, police said.
Constable Madan Singh, 38, deputed with 166 Bn and attached to sector headquarters, Jammu, at the time of his death, had gone to his sister-in-law’s house at Ragore in Gharota area where his wife Deepti Rani, 35, had gone after their argument.
“In a fit of rage, the jawan shot dead his wife with his service weapon when she came out to open the door around 10.30 pm and also injured her sister, besides firing some shots at his eight-year-old daughter, who had a miraculous escape," police said.
Later, Singh shot himself near his wife’s body, the officer said, adding that both the bodies had been shifted to hospital for postmortem and other legal formalities while the injured woman was hospitalized.
The CRPF has begun a departmental inquiry into the incident while a formal case has been registered at Gharota police station.
