COIMBATORE: A section of students who had to write NEET in Tamil medium, were given English question papers at an exam centre at Sulur near Coimbatore. They were later given Tamil question papers. This caused a two-hour delay, and they finished the test only at 7.00pm.
A total of 660 candidates had to write the exam at a private school campus in Sulur. Sources said around 70 students who had to write the exam in Tamil were given English question papers.
A source privy to the issue said, hall invigilators had issued the question papers to the candidates. On seeing that it was in English, candidates had raised the issue. “After official intervention, Tamil papers were given to the candidates at around 3.45pm-4.00pm,” said the source.
Kowshik, a student from Andhiyur, who wrote the test in Tamil at the centre, told reporters that he got nervous on seeing the English paper. “I didn’t know what to write. Then at 4.00pm they gave us Tamil paper. We were scared whether they would collect it at 5.00pm,” he said. The student added they were given time and they finished at 7.00pm.
The student said he had given Tamil as his preference in his application. “In my hall, out of 12 Tamil students, six were given English papers."
He said they were already confused whether NEET would be held this year or not. The question paper goof-up frustrated them even more.
While the exam got over at 5.00pm, parents of these students who were waiting outside, got worried as even at 6.00pm their wards had not come out. A posse of police personnel were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incidents.
