Gujarat adds 1,326 Covid-19 cases, 15 deaths in 24 hrs

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday added 1,326 new positive cases, taking the total to 1.13 lakh. It was the state’s fifth consecutive day to record 1,300-plus daily cases. Since September 1, the state has recorded below 1,300 cases only once on September 8.
The new cases in Gujarat include 281 from Surat, 172 from Ahmedabad, 151 from Rajkot, 124 from Vadodara, and 120 from Jamnagar. The five districts accounted for 64% of the total cases in 24 hours. With the update, the total cases in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot reached 33,810, 24,181, 9,818 and 6,697 respectively.
The state also recorded deaths of 15 patients, taking the state death toll to 3,213. The deaths in Gujarat include six from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two from Vadodara, and one each from Bharuch, Bhavnagar and Rajkot. With the update, the total deaths in Vadodara district crossed 150.
Analysis of the deaths reveal that the last 100 deaths took place in seven days, at the average of 14 deaths daily. Except 2,900 to 3,000 deaths – which took place in six days – the last 400 deaths have taken place at an average seven days.
A total of 1,205 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 94,010. The discharges include 300 from Surat, 156 from Ahmedabad, 122 from Rajkot, 114 from Jamnagar, and 108 from Vadodara.
With the update, the number of active patients rose to 16,439, which accounted for 14.5% of the total positive patients recorded in the state so far. The share of deceased and discharged patients in the state was 2.8% and 82.7% respectively.
Gujarat in 24 hours carried out 68,828 tests, taking the total to 32.88 lakh. The state health department claimed that the number is 1059 tests per day per million population. As on Sunday evening, Gujarat had 7.42 lakh persons under home quarantine, out of which 508 persons were under facility quarantine whereas the rest were under home quarantine.
