Gzb cops to cover 21 border pts within 45 min of crimes

Ghaziabad: The police in Ghaziabad have prepared a ‘quick response scheme’ for any crime reported in the city. As part of this, officials said that 21 border points and 140 checking points will be covered by cops within 45 minutes of the report of a crime.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani said the first few trials of the scheme have been completed and it will be launched in the district soon. Ghaziabad police have a staff strength of 4,500.
The four broad parameters of the scheme include sealing of the borders. For this, a total of 21 border points have been identified, which will be sealed within 15 minutes of the report of a crime. Thereafter, cops will put up barricades near all police stations and posts and start checking vehicles passing through these areas. “This will take another 20 minutes,” Naithani said.
Subsequently, in the third phase, police will barricade 124 identified critical points in the district, and then start intensive checks at 140 places, including malls, parks, parking lots and other public places in the last phase. Both these phases will take another 10 minutes to start, the SSP said. “We will use the quick response scheme as per the nature of crime. There may be cases where we may need to apply only the first phase of the scheme,” he added.
A senior police official said that during the initial trials, “we found several loopholes in the scheme”. “For instance, at a few spots, police personnel were not found to be active after getting the information, while at some places, cops failed to put up barricades,” he said, addingmore checking points are needed like near the Hindon Elevator Road and Loni. Residents say if implemented properly, the scheme will help arrest the rising crime graph of Ghaziabad.
