BSF recovers arms, ammunition from Indo-Pak border in Punjab

AMRITSAR: Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted an attempt of Pakistani narco terrorists to infiltrate arms and ammunition into India on Saturday morning.
According to an official release, BSF claimed that a patrolling party in the area of responsibility of 124 Battalion of BSF deployed in the Abohar sector recovered 3 AK 47 rifle, 6 magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62 mm, 2 M 16 rifle, 4 magazines , 57 rounds of 5.56 mm, 2 Chinese made pistols , 4 pistol magazines and 20 rounds of 7.63 mm.
BSF sources informed that the arms and ammunition was found at least ten meters inside the Indian territory in a field of Dona Mattar village in Ferozpur district.
Sources expressed the possibility that the arms and ammunition consignment could have been dropped by the Pakistani smugglers which were to be retrieved by their Indian counterparts by taking advantage of at least three feet grown paddy.
“This is a huge consignment of arms and ammunition which can’t be concealed and brought from across the border fence in a tractor , so the possibility is that the smugglers could be waiting for harvesting combine to go beyond the fence during paddy harvesting season and conceal the consignment in a combine to dodge the BSF," said sources, adding that the same was possible in the month of October when combines arrives in this part of Punjab for harvesting .
“It seems that the smugglers were prepared since the arms and ammunition were wrapped in a plastic sheet and a cloth to avoid any damage due to moisture,” said sources.
“We are trying to decipher the mystery but definitely the terrorists must have been thinking something big” said sources adding that no arrest had been made so far on Indian side.
During the current year, the BSF has recovered a total of 32, 57 and 650 weapons, magazines and ammunition rounds of different types of weapons from the international border with Pakistan in Punjab.
