JORHAT: The All Dimasa Students’ Union on Friday asked the state government to step up patrolling along the Nagaland border as they alleged that over 300 people from Nagaland have encroached upon land near the Doldoli Reserve Forest in the Karbi Anglong district and have started making establishments there.
The union said they have sent memorandums to the chief minister and chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council seeking help but nothing has been done to date. “We have sent a memorandum to the governor of Assam on Friday seeking his intervention into the matter. We have asked the government to take steps to stop the encroachment but if nothing is done, we will have no other option but to take up agitation,” the body’s president Rakesh Hasnu said.
He added, “The encroachment has been carrying on at the entrance road to Dimapur in Nagaland from Karbi Anglong in Assam. About 300 people from Nagaland have been taking shelter in the camps and building huts for more people to come in.”
Several other organizations, like the Karbi Students’ Association, All Assam Students’ Union, All Assam Gorkha Students Union, All Assam Adivashi students’ Association and Dijua Khunang Hossom have strongly opposed the alleged encroachment by the people of Nagaland in Assam.
