CHENNAI: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be abolished in Tamil Nadu once the DMK is voted to power, said party president M K Stalin on Saturday.
Stalin wrote a letter to the student community following the suicides of two medical aspirants in the state on Saturday. Stalin dissuaded the students from taking any extreme step and urged them to put up a fight.
He requested them to be bold. He said the DMK would fight for the students’ rights.
“Ending one’s life is not a solution. Parents and the country are depending on you. Be brave and stand firm. We are here to fight for you and get justice. Don’t give up,” he said.
He said the party would form a government within eight months. “The DMK government would facilitate the students, who lost the opportunities, to pursue their dream. It would create all facilities, be it increasing the number of seats or medical colleges, for the students to pursue medicine. They would be admitted based on their mark scored in the public examination,” he said.
He said the DMK would face legal and political battles to revive the dreams of the students and appealed to the students to be patient for another eight months.
He called the EPS government in Tamil Nadu as “subservient” to the Centre. He said the Centre and the state government were a threat to the lives of the students.
