PATNA: Giving a major jolt to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Bihar’s Saran region ahead of the state assembly polls, altogether eight leaders of Mayawati-led party, along with their supporters, on Saturday joined the ruling JD(U) in the presence of three ministers of Nitish Kumar government.
The joining programme held at the JD(U) state office in Patna where state’s planning and development minister Maheshwar Hazari, transport minister Santosh Nirala and the SC/ST welfare minister Ramesh Rishidev welcomed the BSP leaders in the JD(U) and provided them membership of the new party.
The BSP leaders who joined the JD(U) were its state vice president Rajesh Tyagi, state secretaries Anant Kumar Gond, Amarendra Narayan Shrivastava and Raj Kumar Ram, former district president of Saran and Up-Pramukh of Baniyapur block Sanjay Kumar Ram, Sonepur Vidhan Sabha constituency president and secretary Shravan Kumar and Pramod Kumar, respectively, and the Dighwara block unit president Dinesh Kumar Bhakta.
JD(U) state general secretary (headquarters) Navin Kumar Arya said all the eight BSP leaders and their supporters who joined the JD(U), belonged to the Saran region. “With their joining into the JD(U), the BSP virtually lost its several active leaders in the Saran region,” Arya said.
Speaking on the occasion, the BSP leaders said they were highly impressed by the development works done by CM Nitish Kumar in entire state especially in Saran region. Hence, they decided to join the JD(U).
