AMBALA: The police on Saturday booked six members of a gang which was caught conducting recce of the state road transport authority (RTA) officials of Ambala in the Naraingarh area of the district.
On Saturday, Ambala additional deputy commissioner (ADC) cum secretary state road transport authority (RTA) lodged a complaint with the police, after she on Thursday busted six members of a gang sending locations of RTA staff to the transporters to help them pass with their overloaded vehicles through the district.
However, accused were released by the Ambala police as a case was not registered in this matter up to Saturday, and now the police officials are working to arrested them, told the sources.
ADC Preeti during a press conference on Friday said, “A gang was busted on Thursday night that shared locations of RTA officials on a WhatsApp group namely ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ in Ambala. The transporters with their overloaded vehicles made movement through Ambala roads on the basis of information provided by the gang, to avoid penalties, thus causing revenue loss to the state exchequer. There are different groups and about 400-500 people are involved in this syndicate. They charged about Rs 1,500 to 2,000 from the transporters for adding them to their WhatsApp group. Some big transporters of the region are their group members.”
To a query, ADC Preeti said, “We received the tip-off that some suspects are regularly conducting recce of RTA officials. Following, we started an investigation and six members of gang were caught in Naraingarh area on Thursday. After looking into their mobiles, it has come to light that a large number of persons involved in illegal mining are also members of their groups and further investigation is being done.”
On the complaint of ADC Preeti, a case has been registered against six accused identified as Ram Singh, Armaan, Mandeep Kumar, Hemant Singh, Rameshwar alias Rajiv, Raja alias Samrat under Section 67-A (punishment for publishing of material containing information in electronic form) of the Information Technology (IT) Act and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duties) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Naraingarh police station on Saturday.
ADC stated to the police, “On September 10, 2020 night, during checking of overloading vehicles in the Naraingarh area some persons were caught sharing live locations of ADC and RTA staff to transporters. Six persons were nabbed namely Rameshwar alias Rajiv alias Kaku, Raja, Armaan, Hemant, Ram Kumar, Mandeep Kumar. Their mobile phones were seized which contained information about the location and others of RTA officials in form of audio and location messages. Accused were handed over to the police along with their mobiles.”
Naraingarh deputy superintendent of police Anil Kumar told, “A case has been registered under relevant Sections of the law on Saturday. They were busted on Thursday night and we received a complaint on Saturday and further investigation is being done. They would be arrested soon.”
Earlier on September 7 at about 10.30 pm, when Ambala ADC Preeti went to conduct checking of overloading vehicles towards Naraingarh, her official vehicle was allegedly chased by two persons in a car from Kalka Chowk, Ambala City to Badi Rasour village in the Naraingarh area. Following, the ADC lodged a complaint at Naraingarh police station on September 8, and on the next day, the Ambala police arrested two accused Jaswinder Kumar of Mughal Majra village in Ambala district and his accomplice Sachin of Kalsera village of Karnal district who were released on bail on September 9.
