AMC struggles to micro-contain city’s north-west

Chandlodia accounts for 8 of total 30 new micro-containment areas in the city notified on Friday; Ahmedabad district reports 174 fresh cases of infection in 24 hours, highest this month
The Covid-19 scene seems to be getting worrisome for western Ahmedabad, especially areas in in its north-west zone. Chandlodia, which falls in this zone, alone accounts for 8 out of 30 new micro-containment areas, or over 26%, notified bythe Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Friday.
Besides Chandlodia, other micro-containment areas have been identifed in Jagatpur and Ghatlodia in the north-west zone. Earlier too, several cases have been reported from Bodakdev, Gota and others that are in this zone.
With the addition of the new micro-containment areas, the city now has 374 such areas. In the south-west zone, microcontainment areas were notified in Bopal, Jodhpur and Sarkhej while in the west zone, Naranpura and Nava Vadaj had them.
The maximum number of houses that were quarantined were 190 in Akshat apartment in Ghatlodia with a population of 500 people. Likewise, 110 people from 32 houses in the Vrundavan apartments in Godrej garden city scheme was also put under microcontainment. Meanwhile, AMC also removed micro-containment areas from Thaltej, Vasna, Shahibaugh, Paldi, Chandkheda, Maninagar, Isanpur and Vastral among others.
22 found positive at Kalupur rly station
As part of its ongoing drive to test incoming passengers at railway stations, the AMC teams carried out rapid antigen tests on 1,885 passengers at Kalupur railway station on Friday, of which 22 were found positive. Of the 840 passengers tested on Rajdhani Express, 12 were positive, while of the 548 passengers from Muzaffarpur Express, five tested positive. Five of 497 passengers of Gorakhpur Express were positive. All these passengers were given immediate treatment and were sent for institutional quarantine in designated Covid centres and hospitals. AMC had started this drive after several migrant workers tested positive for thecoronavirus infection in the city during the civic body’s drive to test labourers at construction sites.
174 new cases in city
As many as 174 new Covid-19 cases were reported from the district in 24 hours. Of these, 153 were in city and 21 were in rural parts. The district’s tally has now reached 33,378.
According to AMC, till Friday morning, there were 3,653 active cases in the city. The maximum, 637, were in north-west zone (Chandlodia, Ghatlodia, Bodakdev, Vastrapur, Gota, etc). It was followed by 628 cases in west (Navrangpura, Naranpura, Paldi, Ranip, etc) and 610 cases in southwest zone (Satellite, Jodhpur,Prahladnagar , Sarkhej, Bopal, etc). The central zone (Dariapur, Jamalpur, Khadia, Asarwa , etc) has 342 cases. The north zone (Meghaninagar, Sardarnagar, Saijpur, Saraspur, etc) had 346 cases while the east zone (Bapunagar, Amraiwadi , Nikol, Vastral and others) has 543 cases. The south zone (Maninagar, Kankaria, Behrampura, Ramol and others) has 547 cases till date.
With three more deaths, the district’s death toll rose to 1,748 on Friday. As per data from AMC, there are 31203 cases within city till date, which 25,844 people have been discharged and 1,706 people died.
