Sharad Pawar, Rahul Gandhi attend House panel briefing by General Rawat

NEW DELHI: The parliamentary standing committee on defence met on Friday and was briefed by chief of defence staff Bipin Rawat, with the discussions attended by former defence minister Sharad Pawar and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
The panel is learned to have stuck to its original agenda of ‘provision and monitoring of ration and livery items to the defence forces’ barring some odd members who spoke on the border tension.
The meeting was also attended by Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut among others. According some reports, Pawar is learned to have sought a special committee meeting on the China issue while BJP’s Hanuman Beniwal spoke about the border tension with China.
While defence officers briefed the panel on the issue of rations and uniforms and gave details on how the fare was different for officers and soldiers, Rahul is learned to have said rations should be similar for all. When special clothing for higher altitudes was mentioned, an MP is learned to have asked if it was imported. He is also learned to have asked if it was being imported from China.
