TMC MLA’s murder: CID may file additional chargesheet

Satyajit Biswas was shot dead from point-blank range on February 9, the day of Saraswati Puja, last year.
KOLKATA: The CID is likely to submit a supplementary chargesheet on Monday in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress’s Krishnaganj MLA Satyajit Biswas.
The agency, which has questioned BJP leader Mukul Roy and the party’s Ranaghat MP Jagannath Sarkar, is likely to name the latter in the chargesheet, a source said.
Biswas, a leader of the Matua community, was shot at from point-blank range on February 9, the day of Saraswati Puja, last year. He was declared brought dead in hospital.
Investigators recorded statement of a witness who claimed that Biswas was shot by a group of three people. A locally-made revolver was also seized from near the area. While TMC leaders pointed fingers at BJP, it denied the involvement of any of its workers. The FIR mentioned Roy’s name as an accused.
Roy was questioned by CID this March after the agency took over the case. Roy had, meanwhile, applied for anticipatory bail. The agency did not name Roy when it filed the first chargesheet in February.
Cops also questioned Sarkar several times. From call detail records, CID found that Sarkar had spoken to one of the accused — Abhijit Purandari — many times before the incident. CID had sent the samples to CFSL Chandigarh and got the voices of the accused persons corroborated.
