Sharjeel Usmani, a third-year political science student was arrested in July in connection with violence that broke out during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests on 15 December last year at Aligarh Muslim University. While speaking to Outlook, Usmani said that he doesn’t consider his release as a legal victory and urged the State to compensate and apologize for allegedly framing innocent citizens and putting them behind bars.
Q) You were released from Aligarh district jail after two months. Do you consider your release as a legal victory?
I will not call it a victory. There is nothing to celebrate because I lost three months and missed my exams. I didn’t commit any crime but the State did everything to keep me in prison. The State should not only compensate for my loss but also take action against the police officers who were involved in my illegal arrest.
There are many innocent people languishing in prison for many years. We have the example of Jamia Millia Islamia student Safoora Zargar. The state used the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to keep her in jail for many months. She was released because of pressure from certain sections of the society. The State should be held responsible for putting innocent persons behind bars.
The courts and the judges have to ponder over the reason they are losing respect in the eyes of the public. I consider myself lucky that I was granted bail by the lower court. They couldn’t establish any charges against me. (But) For every privileged Sharjeel who comes out, hundreds of unprivileged innocent persons go to jail.
Q) Will you talk about your experience in jail? How has it changed you?
It’s well documented how Muslims are treated in prisons. I was treated in the same way as Muslim prisoners are treated in police custody. I don’t want to delve into details. I was kept in a barrack meant to host 42 people, along with 145 other inmates. Most of them were charged with rape, murder and other gruesome cases. The inmates recognised me from local newspapers and they used to refer to me as the “Shaheen Baghwala.” Once, when the inmates were watching a movie based on the 26 /11 Mumbai attack, some of them compared me with terrorist Ajmal Kazab and also commented that I will indulge in similar activities. I have realized that prison is a microcosm of the outer world in its crudest form.
Q) You were slapped with multiple charges and arrested by Anti- Terrorism Squad (ATS). Why do you think it was unfair?
The terror squad has nothing to do with anti- CAA protests or the cases that were slapped against me. Every Muslim youth in India is a potential terrorist in the eye of the State and it considers us as a threat to national security. My arrest was also a part of the larger witchhunt against activists from the Muslim community, who were part of the anti-CAA movement. After the AMU violence in December, the UP government charged me with the Goonda Act, which banned me from entering Aligarh district for six months. I never went into hiding and led a public life. I was active with anti-CAA protests and relief work for migrants. On July 8, I was arrested by policemen in plain clothes from my relative's place in Azamgarh. The police took me away to Lucknow when I stepped out of my house with friends. My family wasn’t even informed about the arrest or my whereabouts and all my belongings were confiscated.
Q) You were interrogated by ATS for almost 15 hours. What was the line of questioning?
Though they questioned me for long, it came as a shocker that they barely touched issues regarding anti-CAA protests or the AMU violence. They questioned me at length about my friends from Kashmir and my opinion on the Kashmir issue. They took the name of one Mujahedeen recruit from Nepal and inquired whether I knew him. I have also realized that there is no scope for personal privacy anymore. They had accessed my call recordings, chats, emails, bank account, and everything else. They probed me about the relationship with lawyers such as Rebecca John and Colin Gonsalves since I mentioned them in my phone conversations. They also asked me about Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and journalist Rana Ayyub.
Q) Why do you feel that the Muslim community is being targeted?
There are more than one lakh cases registered against Muslims in connection with the anti- CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh alone. Even in the North-East Delhi riots, Muslims were killed and their houses were burnt. However, it’s the Muslims who are being framed for the violence. The State doesn’t see any value for our lives. We have to negotiate our rights with the State.
Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested for the speech he delivered at AMU. At that particular event, Yogendra Yadav also gave a speech on similar lines. They came in the same car and they spoke at the same event. The fact that Kafeel Khan was charged with NSA for the speech shows the State’s prejudice against Muslims.
Q) Did the arrest dampen your spirits? Will you carry on the fight against the citizenship law?
If the witch-hunting was meant to scare, it has only made me bolder and stronger. I don’t regret my actions even for a moment. I am positive about the future of the anti-CAA movement. This isn’t a fight only to scrap the black law. It is also a struggle to restore our self-esteem. I am sure the movement will bloom again like wild mushrooms. Everyone has to come together in this battle.

"It's been seven years, it's my favourite number, so I guess it's meant to be. I am very grateful for this opportunity. I am grateful to be playing against such champions.
"(Had never defeated Serena in Majors) I knew it's never over till I have another chance. I knew it wasn't over at 5-3 as well. I held on. (Back when she lost a final to Serena) I was young, my ego was way bigger back then.
"It is the daily work I have been doing to keep calm mind but keep moving my body for energy. There was no crowd for energy so I had to do it myself. She dug me a big hole in the first set, I am glad to have turned it around.
"I hope it inspires women to go out and chase their dreams. You don't have to be just one thing. I am a mother but also a tennis player and fighter on court. I want to inspire my kid. I hope women know they can do anything.
"So excited to play against her (Naomi Osaka), we didn't get to play last week. She is super powerful. I have to stay super strong. Playing in the final is a blessing and I am going to take all the fun out of it."

Set 3: Serena* 6-1, 3-6, 1-4 Azarenka | Net cord helping Azarenka when she was 15-30 down and then she slams a down-the-line forehand to go up 40-30. A big first serve and then a backhand to the other side gets Azarenka over the line and she holds her serve. Serena has her ankle strapped completely and after Victroria Azarenka makes her hustle on the court a lot, she held her ankle in pain and called for a trainer. The trainer checked and she took a medical timeout, wherein her ankle was further strapped.
The momentum was all with Azarenka, will this break her rhythm? Will Serena will able to move well on the court?
Sep 11, 2020 8:41 am (IST)
Set 3: Serena* 6-1, 3-6, 0-1 Azarenka | Oh that huge Serena scream! Serena comes to the net and wins the first point of her service game with a kill at the net. From 40-0 up, Azarenka stormed right back to take it to deuce with her backhand firing. After a lot of hustle on the court, Serena worryingly held her strapped ankle called for the trainer.
Set 3: Serena* 6-1, 3-6, 0-1 Azarenka | Azarenka starts the decider on a good note as she grinds out to hold her serve. She is making Serena move on the court now and Serena has been misfiring while Azarenka seems more agile and consistent now.

Set 2: Serena* 6-1, 3-5 Azarenka | Azarenka holds her serve with ease. She is in her rhythm now, showing her range of strokes, consistent backhand and attacking Serena up front.
Sep 11, 2020 8:21 am (IST)
Set 2: Serena 6-1, 3-4 Azarenka* | Two break points come and go for Azarenka but she is playing so much better now and creating pressure on Serena. Serena has lost all seven of her second serve points so far. Serena, though, shows her composure once again and holds her serve.
Sep 11, 2020 8:18 am (IST)
Set 2: Serena* 6-1, 2-4 Azarenka | Another love hold for Azarenka, her second straight. This is finally turning right for Azarenka. Serena will now have to just dig in.
Form 52 per cent first serves in and a just a 40 percent win ratio in the first set, Azarenka has bettered her first serve in percentage to 81 and is winning 77 per cent of them. That is how better Azarenka is now!
Sep 11, 2020 8:13 am (IST)
Set 2: Serena 6-1, 2-3 Azarenka* | 0-30 down, Serena gets a big first serve in and let's out a "c'mon" to pump herself up. But Azarenka brings her A return game and beautiful backhand to get herself two break points. She converts in just her first point to get right back in this semi-final.

Set 2: Serena* 6-1, 2-2 Azarenka | Azarenka holds her serve to love. She is playing better now, giving herself some chance here. She has even put 10 out of 12 first serves in this set and that has been a huge help for her.

Sep 11, 2020 8:00 am (IST)
Here are the statistics from the first set of Serena Williams vs Victoria Azarenka.
Sep 11, 2020 7:59 am (IST)
Set 2: Serena 6-1, 1-0 Azarenka* (* denotes next server) | A dominant service hold by Serena as she hold her serve 40 to love. It is all Serena right now and even though the American is playing good tennis, it is more about how weak and patchy Azarenka is right now.
Sep 11, 2020 7:57 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena 6-1 Azarenka | From 40-0 up, Serena takes Azarenka to deuce. Azarenka was really good in the first three points but not so much in the next three. She is so inconsistent right now that it is just playing in Serena's hands. Serena then converted her second set point to ease through the first set.
Set 1: Serena 5-1 Azarenka* | Azarenka is finally getting into her elements, she is opening up the court, coming to the net, going for the winners, and stretching Serena. She is able to bring up a break point but then sprays her backhand to get it to deuce. Serena, then, gets to advantage with a big first serve. However, Azarenka's consistent returns make Serena send a forehand wide. An unforced error from Azarenka as she hits the net despite a couple of massively attacking strokes that stretched Serena. She holds her serve!
Sep 11, 2020 7:39 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena* 4-1 Azarenka | Azarenka is having to work so hard for every single point right now, she could be heard cursing, "it's f*****g s**t," she said in the middle of her service game. But she finally gets on board as well. Azarenka shows her range, plays some powerful shots to the line to get '1' against her name.
Sep 11, 2020 7:36 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena 4-0 Azarenka* | Another easy hold of serve for Serena Williams to open up a 4-0 lead. This first set looks like it will be a walkaway for the six-time champion. Azarenka just can't find her length yet.
Sep 11, 2020 7:32 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena* 3-0 Azarenka | Serena, who has had slow starts at US Open, will not mind this. Azarenka has literally gifted her an ideal start with two breaks of serve.
Sep 11, 2020 7:27 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena 2-0 Azarenka* | Serena starts her service game with a double fault but then holds with ease by taking the next four points to close out the game. An ideal start for the six-time champion.
Sep 11, 2020 7:24 am (IST)
Set 1: Serena* 1-0 Azarenka (* denotes next server) | What a terrible start for Azarenka as Serena rights away breaks her without even doing much. Surely, this is nerves speaking for Azarenka. After all, this a rematch of the two US Open finals she has lost!

Osaka has two Grand Slam titles to her name while Brady had never been past the fourth round at any major tournament until this week even though she won her first WTA title at Lexington, Kentucky after lockdown. She and Osaka have played twice, each winning once by a 6-4, 6-4 score, although Brady’s victory came six years ago.
Williams vs Azarenka is a rematch of US Open 2012 and 2013 finals, both of which were won by Serena. Williams is closing in on what would be her seventh U.S. Open championship and record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title overall. She has made it to the semifinals in each of her past 11 appearances in New York. Azarenka is a two-time Australian Open champion on a 10-match winning streak and back in a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in seven years. Williams leads Azarenka 18-4 head-to-head.
Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was once considered Lalu's close aide. He resigned from the RJD on Wednesday.
Lalu Prasad Yadav pens emotional letter to Raghuvansh Prasad Singh after resignation.
Jailed RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has made an emotional appeal to Raghuvansh Prasad Singh not to leave the party. Lalu’s letter comes hours after Raghuvansh sent his resignation to Lalu who is undergoing treatment at RIMS, Ranchi.
In his reply, Lalu said that his family needs him and told him that “you are not going anywhere”.

“…I cannot believe (that you have resigned from the RJD). My family and I want you to recover fast, and to see you standing among us. For the last four decades, we have sat together to make political, social, and even family decisions together. You should first recover, and we can then talk it out. You are not going anywhere. I am telling you,” he wrote.
Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was once considered Lalu’s close aide. He was reportedly sidelined by the party since his 2014 general election loss from Vaishali seat.
Raghuvansh wanted Rajya Sabha berth but the RJD denied him on many occasions. After the 2019 elections which Raghuvansh had lost, the politician wanted the RJD to nominate him to the Upper House.
Raghuvansh was also miffed over the leadership of Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav. He had in June resigned from the RJD’s national vice-president post after his rival Rama Singh met Tejashwi to pave his entry into the party.
While in 2014, Raghuvansh lost his stronghold Vaishali seat to LJP’s Rama Singh, he contested unsuccessfully in 2019 against LJP’ Veena Devi. Notably, Raghuvansh had won all the parliamentary elections since 1996 from Vaishali.
Raghuvansh and Rama Singh belong to the same caste — Rajput. They draw on support from the same political constituency.
According to reports, Rama Singh wants his wife to contest the Assembly election on the RJD’s symbol.
Raghuvansh has also been upset with Lalu’s eder son Tej Pratap Yadav who had dismissed him as “just a potful of water in the ocean of the RJD”.
Raghuvansh, 74, is undergoing treatment at AIIMS with a persistent cough after recovering from Covid-19.
Following Raghuvansh’s resignation from the RJD, the BJP said that it is a matter of concern for the RJD that its senior leaders are quitting.
“Raghuvansh Babu is a leader who commands respect of all parties. Why he quit the RJD is a matter of concern. Such a senior leader was not getting due respect from Lalu Prasad’s sons,” party spokesperson Nikhil Anand said.
JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh said that it is unfortunate that RJD was not able to respect one of its tallest leaders.
“Raghuvansh Babu represents the legacy of socialists, but RJD could not respect him,” he said.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Raghuvansh could join Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today that school students should have a new curriculum, which is in sync with the new National Education Policy, by 2022 when the nation celebrates its 75th year of Independence.
Noting that marksheet has become "pressure sheet" for students and "prestige sheet" for families, the Prime Minister said the new policy aims to remove this pressure.
The NEP will reduce the syllabus and make learning a fun-based and complete experience, he said.

Asian shares struggled to stem a bearish mood on Friday after US technology stocks fell overnight on growing doubts about stimulus in the world's largest economy.
Domestic stock markets fluctuated between gains and losses on Friday, as global equities took a breather amid rising cases of COVID-19. The S&P BSE Sensex index moved within a range of 240 points, between 38,738.22 and 38,978.52, in morning deals, having started the day marginally higher. The broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark hovered around the 11,450 mark after opening flat at 11,447.80. Losses in financial and energy stocks offset gains in consumer goods and automobile shares.
At 10:02 am, the Sensex traded 3.95 points - or 0.01 per cent - higher at 38,844.27, while the Nifty was up 4.45 points - or 0.04 per cent - at 11,453.70.

Adani Ports, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, Eicher Motors and Axis Bank, trading between 0.84 per cent and 1.96 per cent lower, were the top laggards in the index.
Analysts awaited macroeconomic data to assess any signs of recovery from the damage caused by the COVID-19-triggered restrictions. Official data on industrial production will be released after market hours on Friday, and on consumer inflation in the country on Monday.
Equities in other Asian markets struggled to stem a bearish mood after US technology shares fell overnight, on growing doubts about stimulus in the world's largest economy and worries about their stretched valuations.
The European Central Bank's status quo on policy and weak US jobs data claims fuelled concerns that stimulus and high liquidity may not be enough to counter the damage caused by COVID-19 to world economy and business.

Asus F570 detailed review
The Asus F570 is a rather unique gaming laptop in that it’s easily one of the most affordable ones out there in the market. It uses an all-plastic construction but doesn’t feel visibly too flimsy or delicate. The body sports a neat, brushed metallic finish that’s easy on the eyes. The keyboard is easily one of the best Asus has ever made outside of its ROG lineup; the keys are soft and precise and include the long-lost context menu key.
There’s an AMD Ryzen 5 processor on the inside that runs cool most of the time. Accompanying the AMD Vega 8 internal GPU is a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GPU with 4GB of video RAM. The RAM is a healthy 8GB but the hard drive is a sluggish 1-terabyte unit. How does all of this sum for a gaming machine that’s aimed at students and first-time gamers? Let’s find out.
Build and Design
The Asus F570 is only made of plastic on the outside but feels strong enough for everyday use. The top cover feels like it can take scratches and minor bumps but not big drops. The top cover and the area around the keyboard have a brushed metallic finish, which lends the laptop an attractive look. While the body itself is in black, some of the borders and the Asus logo are neatly accented in teal.
The display can be opened with the push of a single finger but takes some effort, and it will only go a maximum angle of 120 degrees. But be careful not to wrestle the lid open because it's quite slim and flimsy. We hope you don't mind bezels because the ones around the F570's display are thick. The build and design of the Asus F570 seems commensurate with its reasonable price of Rs 52,990.
Display, Audio, and IO
The display on the Asus F570 is a 15.6-inch Full HD unit with an aspect ratio of 16:9. At 60Hz, the refresh rate is less than half of that offered by the Asus TUF series displays, but given the laptop’s price, that's forgivable. But what's not forgivable is the display’s worrisomely low contrast. The white from the backlight bleeds through the colours badly, to a point where one begins to wonder if Asus has forgotten to add colours to the display altogether. According to our display test, the Asus F570’s display covers only 58 percent of the colours in the sRGB colour scale and 43 percent of the colours in the Adobe RGB colour scale.
Audio on the Asus F570 comes through Asus SonicMaster speakers co-developed by the Asus Golden Ear team. The speakers are neither too loud nor too feeble. At max volume, you can listen to instrumental music quite clearly when the cubicles around you in the office are empty. If there’s a noisy gathering around you, you’ll have trouble. These speakers are best reserved for vocals and music that’s not too heavy on bass, because you’ll hear or feel none of it. In summary, they’re a slightly better than the usual concealed, downward-firing speakers you’d find on most affordable laptops.
The Asus F570 isn’t shy to offer ports for connectivity. On the left side, we see two USB 2.0 Type-A ports and a 3.5mm jack for headsets, along with a lock slot. On right side, we see the power port, a LAN port, a USB 3.1 Type-A port, an HDMI port, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, and a microSD card slot. What’s not on offer is a fingerprint scanner. Your quickest sign-in method on Windows 10 is a four-digit PIN.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Despite a few oddities, this keyboard is one of the best you’ll ever see from Asus. The keys on it are large and soft to press. Even though they seem a bit too soft for accurate feedback sometimes, I find myself having little trouble registering a keypress. The backlighting is single-zone and there are no borders around the WASD keys. This may make some gamers grumble but I’m quite happy with the simplicity of it. What’s a bit peculiar is that Asus has chosen to make what’s usually an Enter key on that super-slim numpad, a Delete key and the right Ctrl key extra long. No, seriously, that Ctrl key is half the width of the space bar. On the bright side, the context key makes a return on the Asus F570. Hurray!
The touchpad on the Asus F570 is a standard precision unit, which makes swiping and clicking a breeze. Multi-finger gestures can be controlled directly through Windows Settings. The physical touchpad keys beneath require some force to be clicked, but are otherwise responsive.
Performance and Gaming
The Asus F570 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Taking care of the graphics department is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 RAM. The only odd one out in this setup is the storage drive: a Toshiba one-terabyte SATA 3 hard drive spinning at 5,400 rpm. It’s also what I believe makes the F570 more sluggish than it actually is.
The review unit scored on the lower side on most of our performance benchmark tests. Working with everyday applications like Google Chrome, Microsoft Excel, and iTunes is mostly a pleasant experience but there are times the laptop stalls for a few good seconds. A cold boot to desktop takes over to a minute to happen. Opening a rarely used context menu within applications or clicking the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar makes the system hang for a few seconds. Exporting a hundred files in Adobe Lightroom takes close to ten minutes. In my observation, the hard drive is almost always thrashing even when other resources seem available.
Do yourself a favour and upgrade to a solid-state drive, or even a hybrid solid-state drive, at the time of purchase. But a word of advice to those of you looking to upgrade later: go straight to an Asus service centre; do not try to open the laptop up by yourself. Not only will the process of opening it up void your warranty, it’ll test your patience quite a bit.
The motherboard is screwed tightly to the inside of the rear cover, which is not a design you see on too many laptops. So, simply unscrewing the rear cover won’t give you access to anything. You’ll have to turn the machine over, open the display up, and take the keyboard off to gain access to the innards. Remember, you can’t just pull the keyboard out without disconnecting the ribbons that run beneath it. Once you’ve meticulously done that, you’ll have access to the battery, the hard drive, and the fan. RAM replacement is a far more complicated affair as it can’t be reached by just opening the keyboard up; you’ll have to get to the other side of the motherboard, which requires a complete disassembly of the elements inside.
Gaming performance is surprisingly better than expected on the Asus F570. During our test, Doom ran on Full HD resolution and Ultra graphics settings at around 50 frames per second, and dropped to 40 frames per second during action sequences. Lowering the settings to Medium bumped the frame rate up and locked it at 60 frames per second for most of the gameplay. Metro: Last Light, on the other hand, ran rather badly on the Asus F570. Regardless of the graphics settings, the frame rate did not cross 20 frames per second. This game, sadly, is best played on Low settings. What’s nice about the F570 is that at no point does the package temperature of the AMD Ryzen 5 processor cross 50 degrees Celsius. There’s no apparent heat on the keyboard surface or the base. Remember that the AMD Ryzen 5 has a TDP of 15W and is rated for a max temperature of 95 degrees Celsius, but it probably stays so cool because of the single fan on the inside.
Battery
Battery performance on the Asus F570 can be described as average at best. The review unit scored 5 hours, 20 minutes on our standard battery benchmark test. On daily usage tests, where Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned on, the screen brightness is set to 60 percent, and CPU usage is on the higher side, the Asus F570 lasted about three and a half hours on a single full charge. Charging from 20 percent to full took two straight hours. If you’re using it for some light web browsing, expect about four hours of battery life at most.
Bottom Line
The Asus F570 is definitely a model to consider if you’re a student looking to play lightweight game titles on an affordable laptop that you can also take to college. It’s built decently and has enough power for video-editing tools. That said, be mindful of the F570’s poor display; it looks practically colourless. Considering everything, you needn’t think twice about buying the Asus F570. You just need to get that hard drive replaced with a solid-state drive through Asus.

Trump says 'didn't lie' about virus after bombshell book
President Donald Trump insisted Thursday that he never lied to Americans about the dangers of coronavirus after a bombshell new book by journalist Bob Woodward revealed that he deliberately tried to downplay the crisis.
Trump's taped admission to Woodward that he minimized the pandemic in public, while being aware of the unique danger from Covid-19, has set off alarm bells less than eight weeks before election day.
The Yureka Black is a decent smartphone, but it lacks in the camera and battery departments. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 is a better purchase, although the Yureka Black will perhaps suit those who put looks above all else. Of course, the really right choice would be a phone that brings such features on top of Android Nougat, but OEMs seem reluctant to make such phones right now.

Yu Yureka Black detailed review
Micromax needs a win. In fact, it needs a big win, and for that it’s pulling out the big guns. The company’s sister concern, Yu Televentures, had its biggest and probably only win with the Yureka smartphone (review) some years ago. So, to bring back the Yu brand, Micromax is also reviving the Yureka line of devices, with what it calls the Yureka Black.
There’s a stark change in philosophy this time. The Yureka Black feels more like a Micromax phone than one by Yu Televentures. It’s not the price breaking, spec-focused device the company has been known for. Instead, Micromax is focusing on design and delivering the specs/features that most of its competitors are bringing. That means there’s nothing really new or ground breaking about this device. Yet, it’s one of the many smartphones contending for your attention and a portion of your hard earned money. So, here’s the Yureka Black review.
Build and Design
Much like the Yu Yureka, the Yureka Black is essentially a phone called the Wiko uFeel Prime with the Yu logo instead of Wiko’s. You could criticise the company for that, but really it makes Micromax no different than any other, with their similar looking smartphones. For what its worth, the Yureka Black at least doesn’t look and feel like any of its competitors in the Indian market. It’s a sad fact, but the smartphone market literally has no innovation anymore.
On the flipside, the Yureka Black’s metallic back feels distinctly more premium than competing devices. It feels more like glass than metal, same as the Jet Black variant of the iPhone 7 (review). That though means that the Yureka Black is the most slippery smartphone in the budget segment. It feels slippery when you’re holding it, and tends to slide off your lap or table. It’s a difficult phone to handle, especially with one hand. Things are easier when holding it in vertical position, but it’s a nightmare when held horizontally, for shooting photos, watching movies etc. The slippery back also makes it difficult to prop up against other objects, since it tends to slide off them too. Lastly, as with the iPhone 7, the body is prone to scratches and smudges.
There are chrome antenna lines on the back with the camera at the top-centre and a flash below it. The Yu logo is parallel to the camera on the bottom and the sides are rounded, as are the corners. There’s 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and true to its name, the entire device is as black as it gets. In fact, it’s so black that I found it difficult to spot the micro-USB orientation in dimly lit rooms. The bezels are hard to spot too, because of this black treatment, and the entire design becomes more seamless due to that.
That said, I’m not a big fan of the black shadows (on the home screen) near the top and bottom edges of the display. It looks like light leak, but is actually an UI element that disappears when you’re using other apps.
Overall, the Yureka Black chooses looks over ergonomics, and like every other smartphone you’ll need a cover for this one. If that works for you, you’ll enjoy this device.
Display
The black shadows I mentioned above make the display somewhat underwhelming at first glance. A closer look suggests that Yu has tuned the colours to pleasantly warmer levels, but contrast is certainly lower than usual. It’s a nice looking display and touch performance is good as well, but higher black levels would have been warranted, especially for a phone that plays on the whole “black” thing. In fact, deeper blacks would have blended well with the design as well.
Viewing angles are fine, but a yellowish tone appears when you’re not looking at the display head on. The angles don’t have to be too extreme either and as a result, photos, movies and videos sometimes look quite unnatural on the screen. The display is also slightly on the dimmer side, which means you’ll have to squint a little bit when you’re out and about.
UI
Moving on, I’ve said this often in my reviews recently: Android Marshmallow is simply unacceptable on any smartphone today. Micromax isn’t the only offender, but it must be penalised for this. If you really skip all Marshmallow-powered phones, Motorola and (upcoming) Nokia phones are the only ones you’ll be left with.
The fact is that Android is a fragmented ecosystem, and you do not get updates often. So, by buying a device that’s running a two-year-old OS now, you’re simply reducing your phone’s life cycle. Moreover, you’re missing Google’s security patches from an entire generation of Android, which should matter to even the most basic user today. Simply put, consumers have to demand phones with the newest version of Android and companies have to provide it. Period.
Now that you’ve read all that and ignored it, the UI on the Yureka Black is quite stock like. There are cosmetic changes to the icons and navigation bar, but there are no big changes or surprises here.
Micromax is promoting the fact that the phone supports something called “Smart Gestures”. That basically consists of some regular gestures, like double tap to wake/lock, Flip to mute, pocket protection and more. These are all gestures we’ve seen before and while they do work, I’m personally better off without them. Also, there’s a “Draw Gestures” box that appears when swiping from the top. I often brought this up when pulling down the notification shade, which is poor UI design. The gestures are a nifty gimmick, but nothing that you couldn't do without.
Performance
Going with industry trends, Micromax chose the Snapdragon 430 to power this smartphone. The company is using the Snapdragon 430 and 435 interchangeably, since the two aren’t all that different in any way. However, Snapdragon 435-powered smartphones will have better LTE support, which means they’re more versatile as far as connectivity is concerned.
AnTuTu Benchmark
Geekbench 4 Single Core
Geekbench 4 Multi Core
3D Mark Unlimited
On regular usage, you should expect some lags and stutters. Games are playable, but not at their best. Games like Injustice and WWE Champions will run a couple of frames over 30fps, but won’t ever hit 60. That’s about the performance you can expect from smartphones under Rs. 10,000 today, and it qualifies as usable too. As with most other aspects of this phone, the performance is neither surprising, nor does it impress anymore than other smartphones. App load times are high and I saw stutters when toggling the brightness meter at times. The performance is fine for basic users, but it's not a speedy or smooth device by any margin.
Camera
The rear camera is the only real disappointing aspect of the Yureka Black. I took some good photos at times, but the camera is far from dependable. Colour saturation is sometimes too high and sometimes on the lower side, details are very low and focus often goes wrong. The camera is slow to focus in both well lit and low light conditions. The phone also finds it difficult to separate closely matched colours, like a dark and light shade of green placed close to each other. There was even some colour noise in low light photos, something I haven’t seen in smartphone cameras in years.
On the other hand, the front camera is more dependable. It softens facial textures a little bit, but not enough to make them look unnatural. However, details here are still low and photos lack sharpness still. There's a front flash that can be used in low light conditions, but it won't change any of the basic elements of the images. If selfies matter to you, the flash will probably add some value proposition here, but I'd recommend spending a little more for far better selfies.
Battery
Driving all of the above is a 3000 mAh battery and you’ll get about 10-12 hours of battery life from this. You can game for over an hour on 20% charge and high brightness, while the camera isn’t very tough on battery life either. The Yureka Black’s battery life lies in the industry average today. You’ll charge it every morning and charge again after a 10-hour work day. It’s not going to last you till the night, though, so the Redmi 4 does provide almost 50% more battery life.
Bottom line
When you make a comeback, you want a phone that sticks out and garners consumer attention. In that, the Yureka Black is successful as far as design in concerned. But, there’s nothing to set this phone aside from its competitors and its camera and battery life are actually inferior to the Xiaomi Redmi 4 (our current budget favourite). If you put good looks above all else, the Yureka Black will suit your fancy, but gun to my head, the Redmi 4 is a far more balanced and better device than this. Of course, the really right choice would be something with Android Nougat, but unfortunately no OEM wants to give you that in this price range.

9/11 anniversary highlights Trump's failures as America faces a new crisis — from within
Trump represents an existential threat to our Constitution. That's why hundreds of my fellow former Bush administration officials have pledged to support Biden instead.

By Kristopher Purcell, former Bush communications aide and a co-founder of 43 Alumni for Biden
On Sept. 11, 2001, I was a junior communications aide in George W. Bush's White House. It was my first full-time job; I was barely old enough to buy a beer.
That morning, with America under attack, my colleagues and I were evacuated from the White House. We ran through Lafayette Square, across Pennsylvania Avenue. In the afternoon, after rallying in a makeshift office downtown, my roommate and I were sent walking through the empty streets of downtown Washington to FBI headquarters to assist with a media briefing. We rode with our boss back to an eerily quiet White House and worked with a news crew to set up the Oval Office for the president's address to the nation.
We were in the Oval Office when the president walked in from Marine One on the South Lawn. As he rehearsed his speech, I was struck by his resolve.
I sat behind the president's Resolute Desk as his stand-in and read through his remarks, imagining the momentous decisions he would have to make in that chair in the coming weeks.
We were in the Oval Office when the president walked in from Marine One on the South Lawn. As he rehearsed his speech, I was struck by his resolve and focus, the intensity in his eyes. The nation needed to see strength but also needed reassurance that we would be OK, that we would make it through the crisis and build back better.
This year, on Sept. 11, 2020, our nation faces multiple crises simultaneously. But behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, we have a man incapable of resolve, incapable of focus, incapable of strength, incapable of reassurance.
In Lafayette Square, the same place we were evacuated to 19 years ago, armed agents were sent to attack American civilians with gas and rubber bullets. With that gas still hanging in the air, President Donald Trump emerged from the White House to march through the park to another national church — not for prayer or to urge national unity but for a photo op.
Around the time I walked to the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building on this fateful day in 2001, Donald Trump bragged in a live interview that with the Twin Towers in smoldering ruins, he was now the owner of the tallest building in lower Manhattan. He lamented the loss of the skyline but spared little sympathy for the loss of human life.
Communications staffer Kristopher Purcell sits in the Oval Office as White House staff members prepare for President George W. Bush to address the nation after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 1, 2001.White House Photo Office
Today, after millions of Americans have fallen ill and almost 200,000 people have died, Trump again seems more focused on damage control and his personal finances than helping regular people. We now know that Trump knew the danger we faced with COVID-19 but intentionally played it down. More than 55 million Americans have sought unemployment benefits, and countless small businesses are failing, yet Trump spent valuable time trying to push through $1.75 billion in relief funds for a gleaming new FBI building across the street from his Trump International Hotel.
Americans don't expect our presidents to be perfect; we know they will make mistakes. But they do expect our leaders to work to ease tensions and calm fears and to be honest about the challenges we face. Instead of bringing us together, addressing racial injustice and presenting a national strategy to stop the spread of the virus, Trump has intentionally sowed division, encouraged white nationalists and vigilantes while downplaying the threats they pose to society, stoked fear and spread misinformation with dangerous consequences.
9/11 wasn't just an attack on American citizens; it was an attack on the very idea of American democracy. That democracy is under attack again today.
Around 1,000 are dying every single day from COVID-19 in the U.S. That means every three days, this nation is experiencing a 9/11-level loss of life under Trump's "reign."
9/11 wasn't just an attack on American citizens; it was an attack on the very idea of American democracy. That democracy is under attack again today, not just from a foreign adversary (Russia) or a foreign-born virus (COVID-19) but from behind the very desk where presidents since Rutherford B. Hayes have made life-and-death decisions.
Donald Trump represents an existential threat to our Constitution, our security and our health. That's why hundreds of my fellow former Bush administration officials have openly pledged to support his Democratic opponent in November.
You don't need to support the full Joe Biden-Kamala Harris agenda; I don't. But the nation cannot survive another four years of Donald Trump's chaos, corruption, incompetence and lies. On Nov. 3, or earlier if you vote by mail, I urge you to vote for the only candidate who will help this nation to heal.
Our nation will not be safe until Joe Biden sits behind the Resolute Desk.

Beijing:
Beijing on Friday denied trying to meddle in US presidential election after American tech giant Microsoft said it had parried cyberattacks from overseas groups -- including from China -- against both the Republican and Democratic campaigns.
Microsoft warned it had detected attempts at election interference from overseas, including Russia, Iran and the China-based "Zirconium", which targeted people linked to Democratic candidate Joe Biden's campaign.
But China batted away the allegation, accusing Microsoft of "fabrication" and "creating trouble".
"The US presidential election is the US' internal affair," said Zhao Lijian, spokesman of the Chinese foreign ministry.
"We have no interest to interfere in it, and we never interfered in it."
China and the United States are trapped in a sprawling power struggle reaching into trade, the origins of the coronavirus, defence ambitions and tech security.
Washington has called out Chinese tech firms -- from Huawei to Tik Tok -- as state actors working for the Communist Party of China, claims Beijing and the companies vehemently deny.
Zhao returned fire on Friday, warning that the world should instead be on "high alert" for American tech companies "installing back doors" and harvesting personal data for security services.
With the US presidential election two months away, Twitter, Google and Facebook have all said they are reinforcing protections to curb the spread of misinformation.

PM Modi gives 'mantra' for 'New Age Learning', stresses on effective NEP-2020 implementation
ANI | Sep 11, 2020, 12:31 IST
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday stressed on effective implementation of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

NEW DELHI: Education, when connected to the students' surroundings positively, affects their lives, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and also gave the five principles for "New Age Learning". He also stressed on effective implementation of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
Apart from the Prime Minister, Union Minister for Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of State (MoS) Sanjay Dhotre, among others from various States, also took part in the two-day conclave on School Education in 21st Century under National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, which began today.
"When education is connected to the surroundings it has an effect on the life of the student, and also the whole society. We should promote easy and new techniques which will be the basis for New Age Learning, with Engage, Explore, Experience, Express, and Excel as its roots," the Prime Minister said.
He said that every region in the country has some speciality, some traditional art, workmanship which requires "deep skills" and are very famous and the students residing in those areas should see and learn how they are produced so that they form an emotional bonding, respect and in future can also join these industries.
The Prime Minister said that the NEP has been prepared in such a fashion that the "syllabus can be reduced and the focus can be on fundamental things."
"For learning to be integrated, inter-disciplinary, fun-based and for it to give a complete experience, a National Curriculum Framework will be developed," he said.
The Prime Minister stressed upon the need for developing "mathematical thinking and scientific temperament" in the students and asserted that it was a way of thinking and not the ability to solve Maths problems that needed to be developed.
He reiterated that making the NEP-2020 was just the beginning of the long process and its success would be determined by its effective implementation in the coming days.

The saints of Ayodhya and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have announced that Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief, Uddhav Thackeray, "is no more welcome in Ayodhya", following the Kangana Ranaut episode.
Mahant Raju Das, priest of the Hanuman Garhi temple, questioned the BMC's demolition of Ranaut's office and said, "Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena are no more welcome in Ayodhya. Now, the Maharashtra Chief Minister will face stiff opposition from seers of Ayodhya if he comes here."
He further explained, "The Maharashtra government acted without wasting any time against the actress. But the same government is yet to take action against the killers of two seers in Palghar."
Sharad Sharma, regional spokesperson of VHP, said, "It is very clear that the Shiv Sena is deliberately targeting the actress because she is supporting nationalist forces and has raised her voice against drug mafia of Mumbai."
He said that the Maharashtra government was acting with malafide intention against Kangana Ranaut.
Mahant Kanhaiya Das, head of the Ayodhya Sant Samaj, also accused the Maharashtra government of shielding those who are involved in anti-social activities and warned the Maharashtra Chief Minister against coming to Ayodhya.
"Now, Uddhav Thackeray is no more welcome in Ayodhya. Why is the Shiv Sena is attacking Ranaut? Everyone can understand. It is not a mystery. The Shiv Sena is not the same what it used to be under Balasaheb Thackeray," said Mahant Kanhaiya Das.
Uddhav had visited Ayodhya on November 24, 2018, then on June 16 last year and again in March this year after becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Chahar, who entered the team's bio-bubble on Wednesday after returning two negative tests, had to undergo a cardiovascular test as per BCCI protocol before he could hit the nets.
"He will start training from today. He has got necessary clearance from BCCI. The team is training hard and in good shape. We are looking forward to our first game," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told PTI.
Last year's runners-up CSK face defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener on September 19.
Another player, a batsman, who was tested positive shortly after the team's arrival in Dubai, will be tested on Saturday.
CSK were the last team to start training after 13 members of their contingent tested positive. Another setback was Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulling out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
"We will miss our senior players but at the same time, it is an opportunity for others to stand up and prove themselves. We are confident of doing the job well with what we have," he added.

The new Apple AirPods sound good, not great, but good. While the earphones produce relatively deep bass that's not highly accurate, it handles the highs quite well but the mids are slightly dampened. With a slew of features that will cater to most users’ needs, the AirPods would make an excellent package if it weren’t for the premium one has to pay for them. The value for money factor weighs in heavily as the new AirPods are steeply priced at Rs 18,900 when you buy them with the new wireless charging case. However, buying them with a standard case that costs you Rs 14,900 feels like a better proposition since wireless charging is still a ways away from taking on wired charging and the company is not providing a wireless charger either.

Apple AirPods 2 detailed review
The second generation of Apple AirPods is touted to come equipped with numerous new features. While the most notable change is a new wireless charging case, the audio capabilities and battery life of the earphones are also apparently improved. However, it remains to be seen whether, or how, the addition of new features has affected the new AirPods’ audio capabilities.

Build and design
AirPods take the cake when talking about build and design. The earphones are made of hard plastic that is not only durable but also glossy and quite shiny. They are made to turn heads and while reviewing, I observed people noticing them dangling from my ears. However, the only qualm with their design is their fixed shape without the ability to use eartips. While the AirPods are shaped in a manner to fit almost everyone, I experienced discomfort after using them just 15 minutes, which is certainly an anomaly. Trying to fit them properly in my ears to get the best audio experience was literally a painful experience. This could’ve been a one-off problem because of my smaller ear canals, as none of my colleagues who tried them out, faced the same problem. Still, I would suggest that one try them out before buying to ensure that they are not uncomfortable.
They were a good fit for all my team members but hurt my ear, and my feelings in the process
The cans are not water or sweat resistance and there’s very low passive noise sealing due to the design. Ambient noise creeps in easily, which might be a good or bad thing depending on the use case scenario. If you’re using them at work, or while jogging, the ambient sound leaking in might be a good thing. If you are on a flight, sitting next to a crying toddler, well, then not so much. However, we would’ve personally preferred a better fit to ensure a better listening experience since the Live Listen feature on an iPhone can be used to amplify ambient noise. The dual-beamforming mics on the cans were capable of picking up one’s voice in a fairly noisy environment and we faced no issues while taking calls through the AirPods. Additionally, one can use only one earphone, if need be, and this has proved to be a great option for me when I want to be more aware of what’s happening around me but still listen to some tunes.
Moving on to the charging case, it is small, compact and similar to the cans with a glossy complexion. It is compact enough to fit in your pants without being prominently visible and is extremely convenient to open with one hand. We highlight this because some other charging cases for truly wireless earphones, like the Jabra Elite Active 65T, are quite difficult to open with a single hand.
Small and compact AirPods case
The hinge on the AirPods charging case is also magnetic, which opens and closes smoothly without any problem. Additionally, the build quality suggests that there shouldn’t be any problem in using the case for a very long time. However, a major caveat of the AirPods and their case is that they are prone to scratches and attracting grime and dirt. We found the seams and edges of both the case and the earphone capturing dirt after being used for a day.
Those shiny scrathes ain't so pretty
The lightning connector sits on the bottom of the charging case, while a small button to pair it with devices is on the back. The new wireless charging supported case features a small LED light on the front, which vaguely indicates the battery life of the earphones and the case, unless you have the device paired with an iPhone.
Audio Performance
After listening to the second generation Apple AirPods for a couple of weeks, it’s clear that they sound their best when reproducing lower mid and higher mid frequencies. With a slightly relaxed V-shaped sound signature, the earphones noticeably put more emphasis on the lower and higher end of the audio frequency spectrum. However, what’s surprising is that the cans still manage to preserve the mids without losing too much accuracy, most of the time. The overall sound output of the earphones varies depending on what genre of music one listens to, and it can be understood by breaking down the new AirPods’ audio performance into different segments.
Starting with lower frequencies, the new AirPods feature strong bass but without a fast response. This characteristic can be observed in titles like Chris Rea’s Call on Me, where some details in the lower audio segment are lost due to the faintly booming bass, causing the bass guitar’s riff’s decay to slightly extend. As a result, there is some loss in detail that is mostly because of the boomy bass that envelops the lower-mid audio range. This causes Chris Rea’s gravel-like voice to sound diluted at times. However, we did listen to other bass rich tracks like Lose Yourself to Dance by Daft Punk or in the track Rude by Magic!, where the singer’s vocals linger between upper-mid and lower-high audio range and are rendered succinctly. While the bass in these tracks ranges from sub-bass to the lower-midrange spectrum, it does so without overpowering the vocals or most other mid-range frequencies.
While we’ve already observed how the second gen AirPods’ bass output affects its mid-range frequency reproduction, there are some more observations to be added here. As mentioned, the V-type sound signature of AirPods should downplay the mid-range segment and it does so when we talk about the lower-mids. However, the mid and upper-midrange are less affected by the device’s sound signature and boomy bass. Singers like Micheal Jackson and Adele sound pleasant and peppy without any shrillness when hitting high notes in their songs, Billie Jean and Hello respectively.
The new AirPods are tuned to boost the upper range of audio frequency but the tuning is such that they aren’t harsh or shrill. The sound in this segment is fairly accurate and fast. However, It is also slightly relaxed with the upper-highs rolling off smoothly and toned down when compared to the upper-mids. The smooth roll-off is observed while listening to Earthquake by Labrinth, while Yellow by Coldplay sounds a bit more relaxed. However, very slight fatigue starts building up after listening to music via the earphones continuously for a couple of hours, which is us nitpicking. Coming to soundstaging, it’s neither too wide not to shallow on the AirPods. The cans manage to provide just about enough spacing between instruments when listening to Hunter by Bjork, without mashing them up.
Controls
The new AirPods feature touch-based controls, same as its predecessor. We paired the earphone with both Android phones and an iPhone and the controls worked well in both the cases. However, these controls can be customised only when the AirPods are connected to an iPhone. When connected with an iPhone, you get a number of options such as the ability to invoke Siri, play/pause audio, and skip or go back a track. Unfortunately, there’s no option to control the volume but as the new AirPods support Siri and as we surprisingly discovered, also works with Google Assistant, you can ask the digital assistant to do that for you, along with numerous other commands like setting a reminder, an alarm or calling a contact.
Alonside the dirt, you can also see the tiny, circular IR sensors that on the sides of the AirPods
The AirPods also come equipped with dual optical sensors that pause the audio playback when you take one of the earpieces out of your ear. This feature is limited to iOS devices and doesn’t work when the cans are paired with an Android phone.
Battery Life
In terms of battery life, the new AirPods fair rather well and last more than the original AirPods. We were able to get around five hours of audio playback from them, with the volume set at 70 percent, and around 4.5 hours when placing a couple of 20 minute calls in-between. The case is capable of fully charging the AirPods almost four additional times, meaning the new AirPods can deliver slightly over 20 hours of usage. It takes around one and a half hours to fully top up the charging case when the earphones are also fully depleted, which is in line with other truly wireless earphones.
When you pair the AirPods with an iPhone, you get to see the case's and the AirPods' charge
Bottomline
The Apple AirPods 2 comes with a host of new features like the new H1 chip. These new additions make for a genuinely great truly wireless earphones both, in terms of design and usability. While the audio experience is not as good as what you would get from a pair of wired earphones (in this price range), the new AirPods can be considered a well-rounded package for a truly wireless earphone.
While the new AirPods are not a device audio purists will flock to, it is good enough for the average users and to cater to one’s day-to-day audio needs, given you have about Rs 18,900 to spend. The value for money proposition may be far from ideal for Android users but, for an iOS user, the convenience factor is enough to justify the price. If the Rs 18.990 price tag is too high, then you could just get the second generation AirPods without the charging case and save some money.
However, if you are an Android smartphone, there are better options to explore like the Jabra Elite Active 65T (review) or the RHA TrueConnect (review).

Tripura has a fatality rate of 1 per cent, highest in the northeast. (File)
Guwahati:
Tripura is receiving serious glares for its COVID-19 management after the state showed poor statistics in various parameters. Tripura has a fatality rate of 1 per cent, highest in the northeast with a 59 per cent recovery, second-lowest after Meghalaya.
Within a day of a central team of three health experts reaching the state to take stock of its covid measures, the Tripura High Court on Friday sought various reports from the state government regarding its coronavirus measures and infrastructure, and wants them submitted within a week, before September 18.
The order was passed by a division bench of Chief Justice of Tripura High Court AA Kureshi and Justice Subhasis Talapatra, while hearing a PIL.
In the hearing through video conferencing, the court said, "Recent newspaper reports particularly published in vernacular language have reported the plight of the patients and relatives of those who have been tested positive of the virus. Certain shortcomings in the public health care system are projected."
However, it did not like to be "guided solely by these newspaper reports and would like to gather further information from the Government"
The court said that besides the newspaper reports, it has also noticed from the state's official figures that on a day when the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP hospital in the state capital had shown 240 beds available for the COVID patients, "there were 279 patients at the said centre."
"In other words, the number of patients admitted at the said centre was higher than the total number of beds available," the judgment mentioned.
The court also said that the state only had 14 ventilators, all in its capital region due to which, "shifting the patient from a remote area would be a challenge" if the patient develops respiratory trouble.
In the order, the court sought reports on the number of health workers, availability of PPE Kits, oxygen and other medical facilities, break up of fund allocation and utilisation, district wise break-up of COVID patients and COVID centres along with details on the various amenities they have.
An official of the Health and Family Welfare Department said that three experts, Daisy Panna, Consultant Epidemiologist, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), PK Verma, Assistant Professor, Respiratory Medicine, Lady Hardinge Memorial College (LHMC) and Satyajit Sen, Regional Director of Health and Family Welfare Ministry have reached Tripura and are making rounds of coronavirus-hit districts for 10 days and would submit a suggestion to the state government and a report to the Centre.
Till now, 172 people have died in Tripura of coronavirus and more than 17,000 have been infected.
CARE Ratings Projects Sharper GDP Contraction of 8-8.2 per cent for FY21
Image for representation
The decline in GDP growth by around 8 per cent would also be associated with a decline in the gross fixed capital formation, the agency said.
Last Updated: September 11, 2020, 7:52 PM IST
Domestic rating agency CARE Ratings said the country's economy is likely to see a sharper contraction of 8-8.2 per cent in the current financial year compared to a decline of 6.4 per cent it had projected earlier. "We have further revised downwards our GDP forecast for the year to a range of (-) 8-8.2 per cent under the assumption of there being no fiscal stimulus from the government," the rating agency's Chief Economist Madan Sabnavis said.
This would imply that there would be no increase in capital expenditure (capex) during the year beyond what is provided in the Budget, he said. The decline in GDP growth by around 8 per cent would also be associated with a decline in the gross fixed capital formation, the agency said.
The same would hold for consumption growth that will be affected by lower growth in income across all categories of consumers. "The sharp fall in GDP growth in FY21 would however provide the cushion of a faster pace of growth in FY22 depending on the rate at which various sectors get back on track," it said.
The rating agency had a projection of 6.4 per cent de-growth in GDP for FY21. It was based on the expected progress of the lockdown and unlock processes which were prevalent in the country at that time, the agency said. It further said the GDP fall of about 24 per cent in the first quarter was slightly higher than its expectations of a 20.2 per cent contraction. The element which came in as a surprise was the growth in the public administration, defence and other services segments at (-) 10.3 per cent, it said.
The factors that are working well in the economy are more in the agricultural sector as well as the financial domain where a good monsoon as well as the efforts of the government and the RBI to enhance the flow of credit have shown some positive tendencies, the rating agency said. The unlock process has been gradual, and it needs to be seen whether there is continuity in the approach which will have a bearing on the resumption of some services and the attainment of minimum capacity utilisation in these sectors, it added.
Rugby Championship Moved From New Zealand To Australia
Australia is set to host the Rugby Championship in November and December after a late change of mind by governing body SANZAAR.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand: Australia is set to host the Rugby Championship in November and December after a late change of mind by governing body SANZAAR.
The tournament had been expected to be staged in New Zealand between Nov. 7 and Dec. 12 because of New Zealands success in containing the coronavirus pandemic.
But SANZAAR decided Friday after a conference call among members from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to move the event because of Australias more relaxed quarantine requirements. The decision has been criticized by New Zealands Prime Minister.
SANZAAR chief executive Andy Marinos said organizers were delighted to put an end to the continued speculation about the tournaments format and location.
SANZAAR ultimately determined that based on government-required quarantine protocols and commercial underwriting the Rugby Australia submission was the most desirable and workable in terms of tournament logistics for the essential pre-tournament preparation period and the six-week tournament itself,” Marinos said in a statement.
Matches in Sydney might be able to be played in front of crowds of up to 20,000 fans observing social distancing. New Zealands current protocols do not allow crowds at major sports events, although those rules will likely have been relaxed by November.
Australias regulations are also expected to make it easier for teams to train while in mandatory isolation. Offers of financial support for the tournament from the Australian and New South Wales state governments also helped swing the decision.
Several hurdles remain before the tournament can go ahead. An outbreak of COVID-19 within Argentina’s national squad reportedly has seen 10 players and coach Mario Ledesma infected. Those players and Ledesma likely will have to test negative before being allowed to travel to Australia. Its possible the tournament will go ahead without the Pumas.
The participation of World Cup winner South Africa has also been questioned because domestic rugby is suspended there, creating doubt around the match fitness of the Springboks.
The Springboks participation will be dependent on the relaxation of that suspension as well as overcoming a number of other logistical challenges including the opening of international air borders, Marinos said. South Africa is only expected to return to competitive play next month, leaving a relatively short time to prepare.
If the six-week tournament goes ahead, visiting teams will have to be based in Australia for up to 10 weeks and will have to quarantine on their return home. That would mean All Blacks players, several of whom have young children, will be in quarantine on Christmas Day.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, whose government has been working with New Zealand Rugby to allow the tournament to find measures which would allow the tournament to remain in New Zealand, criticized the decision to move the event as SANZAAR politics.
New Zealand has very successfully hosted tournaments of this nature on a larger scale before, Ardern said. I have every confidence that the facilities we were proposing were up to scratch and the ability to play within three days of arrival was an important part of that pitch.
New Zealand Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson said he was disappointed but accepted the decision.
Now that the decision has been made were looking forward to seeing the All Blacks again take on the best of the Southern Hemisphere,” he said. “We worked incredibly hard behind the scenes with a whole range of stakeholders, including SANZAAR and the New Zealand government, to ensure we were ready and able to host the Championship and we felt we were.
Marinos said SANZAAR hopes to announce match dates and venues in the very near future.
Australia and New Zealand will also meet in Bledisloe Cup tests, likely in Wellington and Auckland, on Oct. 17 and 24 before traveling to Sydney for the Rugby Championship.

BEIJING/NEW DELHI: China and India said they had agreed to de-escalate renewed tensions on their contested Himalayan border and take steps to restore “peace and tranquillity” following a high-level diplomatic meeting in Moscow. Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met in Moscow on Thursday and reached a five-point consensus, including agreements the current border situation is not in their interests and that troops from both sides should quickly disengage and ease tensions, the two countries said in a joint statement.
The consensus, struck on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting, came after a clash in the border area in the western Himalayas earlier this week.
China and India accused each other of firing into the air during the confrontation, a violation of long-held protocol not to use firearms on the sensitive frontier.
Wang told Jaishankar during the meeting the “imperative is to immediately stop provocations such as firing and other dangerous actions that violate the commitments made by the two sides,” China’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Wang also told Jaishankar all personnel and equipment that have trespassed at the border must be moved and that frontier troops on both sides “must quickly disengage” in order to de-escalate the situation.
China’s Global Times, an influential tabloid published by the official newspaper of China’s ruling Communist Party, said in an editorial published late Thursday that any talks with India should be paired with “war readiness”.
“The Chinese side must be fully prepared to take military action when diplomatic engagement fails, and its frontline troops must be able to respond to emergencies, and be ready to fight at any time,” the newspaper said.
“India has an abnormal confidence in confronting China. It does not have enough strength. If India is kidnapped by extreme nationalist forces and keeps following its radical China policy, it will pay a heavy price.”

Cybersecurity experts warn user credentials are more vulnerable now than in 2018
To date, reports show that over 15 billion user credentials sourced from more than 100,000 security breaches are now being distributed online.
Amid the ongoing health crisis, not only are new COVID-19 cases rising, but also the risk of cybercrime. With more people connected to the internet daily, hackers are taking advantage of vulnerable systems and passwords that can easily be cracked by the use of certain tools. Tech pundits acknowledged that there is apparently a thriving business online wherein personal information is traded in exchange for cryptocurrency and other modes of payment. As such, users are encouraged to follow certain guidelines to prevent exposure.
"The average person uses some 191 services that require them to enter passwords or other credentials. That's a lot to keep on top of, and it presents a huge problem if a compromise occurs, particularly if a person uses the same credentials across multiple services," notes cybersecurity outfit Digital Shadows. As cybercriminals develop advanced methods to crack encryptions and other security protocols, usernames, passwords, and other credentials are at risk of being compromised.
To date, reports show that over 15 billion user credentials sourced from more than 100,000 security breaches are now being distributed online. This is an alarming increase of about 300 percent since 2018, which indicates the need for improved protection. Further research shows that around 5 billion out of the 15 billion are unique, while the rest is the same information used for different accounts or services.
Rick Holland, the CISO and VP of Strategy at the aforementioned cybersecurity firm said: "The message is simple – consumers should use different passwords for every account." It appears cybercriminals are specifically targeting accounts that have tags related to accounting, payments, invoices, and other related subjects. The report even goes on to share an estimated breakdown of how much these credentials are being traded for in the dark web.

Credentials that provide access to the world's leading organisations can fetch up to $140,000 at an auction with an average of $3,139. Next up are for financial accounts which can be sold for about $70.91 each. What follows is access to antivirus applications or services which amount to $21.67. Finally, those for social media, file sharing, media streaming, and virtual private networks (VPNs) go for below $10.

Intex Cloud Q11 4G detailed review
Smartphone makers have been relentlessly innovating in the budget segments. Unfortunately, the innovations we’ve seen in the sub-20K or sub-15k segments haven’t yet trickled down to phones that cost even lesser. To be precise, most sub 7K smartphones still feature 2-year-old hardware and negligible performance boosts compared to last generations. So, when the Intex Q11 4G was dropped off at my desk, I was a tad unsure about how it would fare. Frankly speaking, the phone doesn’t seem very competent on paper.
Interestingly, its main feature is the VR capabilities built into it. But, we’ll get to that later. For now, let’s begin with the look and feel.
Build and Design
The design and build quality of the Intex Q11 4G is pedestrian. The glossy back on the phone feels odd and somewhat cheap. It also looks low-end, but seems sturdy enough, considering the price. There’s a certain heft to it and even though the surface looks fragile, it’s not easily scratched, and can withstand an occasional knock or two. Intex does provide an additional clear-case and screen protector in the box, but I believe there’s definitely room for improvement.
Beside the two physical power and volume rocker keys, there is a silent toggle on the left side of the phone. All three physical keys work as intended, but they don’t respond at times. Also, the buttons feel shallow, as they would if the phone was inside a case.
Also, the phone looks like a carbon copy of the Intex 5.5VR smartphone, which was launched a few months back. The two devices share features as well.
Display and UI
Even the displays on the two devices are the same. The 5.5-inch screen on the phone seems quite good, considering the price. Touch response is wonky, though, it’s more like a hit and miss at times. It works sometimes and at others, takes more than a single tap.
Slow performance makes the sub-par touch performance feel worse, which I shall explain in the performance section. The colour reproduction is quite good, but again, viewing angles are just about average. Sunlight visibility isn't great either and there is a visible colour shift from not so wide angles.
The UI remains the same as well. It bears a stock like facade, which is then integrated into an advert-ridden ecosystem. There are almost a dozen pre-loaded apps, most of which can't be uninstalled. The camera app has shortcuts to a shopping app and editing app. Intex’s own app aggregator will also keep popping up on the device’s notification panel and can be dismissed only after you open it and install a few apps. If you don’t want to, you just have to live with it.
The leftmost homescreen include some weather and current news info from partner apps. While some may like this, and it works as intended, all this together makes it seem like the phone is made primarily to sell apps, rather than providing a good experience.
Performance
The performance of the phone was quite disappointing too. Firstly, there isn’t enough space on, with only 8GB of internal storage. With less than 4GB available to the user, the phone refused to install my regular set of test applications. Further, thanks to Intex’s app aggregator, I ended up installing more unwanted apps, which I then uninstalled.
Interestingly, the phone does not handle apps well either. It lags in simple navigation tasks, like opening recent tabs. This is partly due to the fact that it has only 1GB of RAM and partly because the UI lacks optimisation. It became quite apparent, as simpler games, such as 32 Secs hung a couple of times, when it was the only active task. While the phone does manage to run apps such Facebook, Gmail and Chrome, the experience here is sluggish.
VR is supposed to be a redeeming feature here, and while it does run, it’s not flawless. You can play 360 degree videos via YouTube or watch a pre-loaded videos, but that’s pretty much it. The gyroscope often loses alignment and there isn't much space to install VR games either. Here are some synthetic benchmarks, which do not truly justify the phone’s performance in day-to-day performance.
Given its performance otherwise, it’s confounding why Intex wants to sell it on VR capabilities. While lower tier markets may not be privy to things like the Samsung Gear VR (which are not perfect either), this is not the first taste of VR that you should get.
Battery
The PC Mark battery test returns 7 hours and 23 minutes of battery life, which is the industry average today. Using the phone as a daily driver with a Jio SIM, it made it through a normal work-day with over half a dozen calls, about an hour of video streaming, and heavy Facebook and browser usage.
I didn't game much on the device, though, due to unplayable frame rates. Looking past that, there was a drop of 18% in an hour of gaming, with Breakneck.
At one time, while testing the device, it was showing wrong info about the remaining battery percentage. The battery percentage dropped from 30% to 14% suddenly, and then went back up to 35% in the span of less than a minute. This could be an UI issue, or may even be a sign of larger problems. Regardless, it’s not something you want on a phone you just bought.
Once discharged, the 2800mAh removable battery takes about 4-5 hours to charge back, which is inconvenient.
Camera
The 8MP rear shooter is again sub-par. Images taken during daytime are dull, lack details and have softer focus, which ruins image all together. Colour reproduction is way off the mark and dynamic range is poor. This also means the camera is unable to process different shades of the same colour properly. As a result, objects lose appeal and pictures lose composure. Image quality further deteriorates as you move indoors and under low light. Under fluorescent light, images appear hazy, with softer focus. Photos are underscored by low details and visible noise. Low light images are almost unusable.
Bottomline
The Intex Q11 4G is a sub-par phone, despite its low price. Its performance is inadequate, the UI is irritating, the camera is unsatisfactory and build quality and design are pedestrian. It’s VR elements aren’t flawless either. I would suggest you raise your budget to about 7K and get the Xiaomi Redmi 3S, which is a much better phone than this.

AstraZeneca Vaccine Trial Pause, know the reason why?
By Ravindra SoniFri, 11 Sep 2020
AstraZeneca's pause of an experimental vaccine for the coronavirus after the illness of a participant is a "wake-up call" but should not discourage researchers, the World Health Organization's (WHO) chief scientist said on Thursday.
"This is a wake-up call to recognise that there are ups and downs in clinical development and that we have to be prepared," Soumya Swaminathan told a virtual briefing from Geneva.
"We do not have to be discouraged. These things happen."
Governments are desperate for a vaccine to help end the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused more than 900,000 deaths and global economic turmoil, and the WHO had flagged AstraZeneca's, being developed with Oxford University, as the most promising.
However, the drugmaker suspended late-stage trials this week after a participant in Britain suffered from neurological symptoms.
"It's a race against this virus, and it's a race to save lives. It's not a race between companies, and it's not a race between countries," added WHO's head of emergencies Mike Ryan.
More than 27.95 million people have been reported infected globally, according to a Reuters tally.
WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove said a combination of factors is helping reduce death rates in Europe, including finding cases earlier and better clinical care.
"We are in a better position to prevent the virus from infecting vulnerable populations," she said, cautioning, however, that the disease's long-term effects were still not known.
WHO General Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who on Thursday upped his fundraising plea to $38 billion for the agency's ACT Accelerator programme to fight COVID-19, declined to comment directly on reports that U.S. President Donald Trump had downplayed the virus's dangers while criticizing the WHO's response.
"What worries me the most is what I have been saying all along: a lack of solidarity," Tedros said. "When we are divided, it is a good opportunity for the virus."

The money was paid from the minister's discretionary fund, the minister said. (Representational)
Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh:
A young man who had asked for help to set up a barber's shop was asked by a Madhya Pradesh minister to demonstrate his skill on dais during a function.
Satisfied with the job he did, forest minister Vijay Shah paid the man Rs 60,000 on the spot.
The incident took place at Gulaimal in Khandwa district on Thursday. Rohidas, a local resident, had asked the minister for financial help to start a hair saloon.
During the function, the minister called Rohidas to the stage, and asked him to give him a hair cut and shave.
Rohidas, wearing a mask, cut the minister's hair and gave him a shave then and there. Mr Shah handed over to him Rs 60,000.
"These people are facing problems because of COVID-19 restrictions and are jobless for the last few months. I got my hair cut on the spot to give confidence to people that it is safe if precautions are taken," the minister told news agency PTI.
The money was paid from the minister's discretionary fund, he said.
He also said that the government would provide loans through banks to the youth who want to start their own small businesses. They will only have to repay the principal amount while the state government will pay the interest, the minister said.
Myanmar's Recycling Monk is Re-purposing Plastic Waste from Pandemic to Feed Thousands

Buddhist monk Ottamasara estimates that two tonnes of plastic waste, or around 200,000 plastic bottles, have been recycled so far, saving around $10,000.
Last Updated: September 11, 2020, 10:34 AM IST
When a prominent Buddhist monk in Myanmar noticed a surge in plastic waste generated by residents in his Yangon neighborhood during the pandemic, he decided to do something about it.
But Abbot Ottamasara, who runs the Thabarwa meditation center, was taken aback by the response to his request for plastic containers as a substitute for bowls used by his monastery to feed thousands of people in need.
Helped by dozens of volunteers, his team now receives several thousand used plastic bottles a day from the community, with some recycled as food containers and others incorporated into building materials used at the meditation center.
“More plastic waste was being dumped on the street during the pandemic,” said Ottamasara, 51, who launched the recycling drive three months ago after seeing waste piling up on the streets during daily walks to collect food donations.
Authorities do not routinely organize recycling in Myanmar, while around 2,500 tonnes of trash is thrown out every day in Yangon, often dumped on roads and in waterways, or burned.
“If we (the meditation center) ask for donations, people will keep them clean,” said Ottamasara, who uses one name. “Then we can use these plastic bottles as food containers and it not only saves money but also tackles the plastic waste issue.”
He estimates two tonnes of plastic waste, or around 200,000 plastic bottles, have been recycled so far, saving around $10,000.
The nine-acre (3.6 hectares) meditation center hosts workshops to process the plastic waste.
Volunteers use hanging plastic bottles to make sunshades and have even constructed a shelter using car tyres packed with plastic waste and cement to form the walls.

Marijuana activist Nazma Muller speaks during a symposium on the legalisation of marijuana recently. - SUREASH CHOLAI
MARIJUANA ACTIVIST Nazma Muller remains in the women’s remand prison in Golden Grove, as she was granted bail of $300,000, or $15,000 cash bail by an Arima magistrate.
She was arrested on Wednesday for being in possession of more than 400 grammes of marijuana.
On Wednesday police on an exercise in the Northern Division when they got information which led them to Muller’s home at Second Street East, Trincity.
They allegedly found marijuana plants, nurseries, and 435 grammes of dried and cured marijuana .
On December 2019, amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act made it legal for people to have no more than 30 grammes of marijuana, but anyone caught with more than 100 grammes can be charged with trafficking and could be fined up to $3 million if convicted.
Last year Muller appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate after being charged with using obscene language in a public space to the annoyance to others, while advocating for the legalisation of the herb.
Muller has called for the issuance of licences for cultivation, import, export and sale of marijuana.
Broncos' Casey Eager To Face Former Team Titans In Opener
Ever since the NFL released its schedule on May 7, Jurrell Casey has been counting down the days to the Denver Broncos season opener against Tennessee.
Last Updated: September 11, 2020, 3:51 AM IST
DENVER: Ever since the NFL released its schedule on May 7, Jurrell Casey has been counting down the days to the Denver Broncos season opener against Tennessee.
The Titans traded Casey to Denver this offseason in a salary dump, clearing $11 million in cap space by sending the five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman to Denver for a seventh-round draft choice.
Its going to be a little bit more juice, Casey said as his Denver debut approached.
The Broncos host the Titans on Monday night at an empty Empower Field at Mile High.
Casey was a little bit more animated this spring when he called out the Titans, saying the way they traded him after nine seasons in Nashville was equivalent to throwing him away like a piece of trash.
The part that is so crazy is that you give so much to them. Especially when you come up on free agency and have opportunities to go somewhere else, especially the way it was going when we were there, 2-14, 3-13, Casey said on the Double Coverage podcast hosted by the New England Patriots Devin and Jason McCourty.
Those were some rough times. When youre a loyal guy and you feel like things are going in the right direction and youre that centerpiece, you got no choice but to fight it through. My mindset was to stick it out and things would get better.
They did.
The Titans reached the AFC championship game last season thanks to a second-half surge that followed a shutout loss in Denver in which coach Mike Vrabel benched Marcus Mariota for Ryan Tannehill.
The Titans went 9-4 the rest of the way and jumped out to an early double-digit lead at Kansas City before succumbing 35-24 to the soon-to-be Super Bowl champs.
Two months later, Caseys agent called to tell him the Titans were shopping him around, news he said hed rather have gotten directly from the team.
It was a blow to the heart because I would have thought that one of them would have hit me up, Casey said on the podcast.
For six months, Titans fans wondered if the Casey trade was a big blunder but general manager Jon Robinson added an impact player this month in Jadeveon Clowney, who got Caseys old No. 99 jersey number.
Ive got nothing but the utmost respect for Jurrell in the time that I spent here with him and the impact hes made on our organization, Titans coach Mike Vrabel said. This isnt the first or the last time a player has faced his (former) team the next year. Were familiar with that and hes familiar with us and our personnel. Hell certainly be someone that well have to block and be aware of.
Broncos coach Vic Fangio is sure glad he has Casey on his side this time to help corral Derrick Henry and the rest of Tennessees precise offense.
Hes been a productive player throughout his career, Fangio said. He makes plays, he plays with good savvy, hes a smart player. Hes been a good anchor in there versus the run, he flashes his athletic movement …
Hes had a great career, so we were happy to get him and we think hes still got some more left in him, too.
Other subplots when the Broncos appear on “Monday Night Football” for an NFL-best 29th consecutive season:
MISSING MILLER
The notion that Denvers defense would carry the offense took a hit when star linebacker Von Miller suffered a serious ankle injury. Now, Pat Shurmur will be tempted to open things up for Drew Locks baby-faced offense.
No matter what the defense does its our job to score points, said receiver Courtland Sutton, who hurt his right shoulder at Thursdays practice.
NEW LOOK
Now that the Titans have Clowney and Vic Beasley Jr. to bolster their pass rush, the big question is how much will either of them play? Clowney didnt sign his contract until Sept. 7, but spent the offseason training on his own.
Beasley didnt pass his physical until Sept. 5 after spending training camp on the non-football injury list. Playing in the altitude of Denver also could limit the number of reps either get.
HENRY PAYBACK
Derrick Henry was the NFLs rushing leader last season with 1,540 yards, but he has struggled in two games against Denver. Henry ran 12 times for 42 yards backing up DeMarco Murray as a rookie in a Titans win on Dec. 11, 2016, and he was held to 28 yards on 15 rushes in a 16-0 loss in Denver last October. That easily was Henrys worst game last season.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Sutton said the Broncos, who joined a peaceful protest in the summer following the death of George Floyd, determined that each individual player would decide what they wanted to do during the national anthem Monday night. Sutton said the only request from management was that every player be present on the sideline for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Sutton said hell take a knee to continue bringing attention to social injustice and racism.

England fell to a 19-run defeat against Australia despite Sam Billings' maiden century in the first one-day international at Emirates Old Trafford.
Chasing 295, England were quickly reduced to 57-4 after a fine opening spell from pace bowler Josh Hazlewood.
Billings' 118, and 88 from Jonny Bairstow, gave England hope, but the hosts could not get on top of the creeping run-rate and finished on 275-9.
Australia had earlier recovered from 123-5 to post 294-9 from their 50 overs, largely thanks to a superb 126-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell.
England will be pleased with the maturity Billings - who is not a regular in this one-day side - showed to help them recover from their poor start.
However, the Kent batsman was left with too much work to do with the tail and Australia capitalised, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa taking 4-55 and Hazlewood a brilliant 3-26.
Australia were without Steve Smith, who withdrew from the match after being struck on the head in a net session on Friday.
Smith passed a concussion test but opted against playing, and will need to pass another if he is to play in the next match on Sunday.
The Ashes 2.0
This felt like a flashback to last summer's Ashes series, with Hazlewood and Pat Cummins tormenting England with pinpoint accuracy.
Billings was able to weather the Australian bowlers, starting slowly and reaping the rewards for his patience, but England's top order endured a difficult time.
Jason Roy, returning from a side strain, could barely lay bat on ball and the first shot that found the middle of the bat ended with the ball nestled in Hazlewood's hand as he took a superb one-handed catch in his follow-through.
Hazlewood suffocated England, bowling three maidens in his opening eight-over spell, and the pressure told.
Joe Root edged Hazlewood behind, Eoin Morgan hoicked Zampa to cover and Jos Buttler skied the same bowler to a diving Marnus Labuschagne at long-off to leave England reeling.
Bairstow was shackled at the start of the innings but persevered, making the slowest half-century of his career, before holing out to long-on off Zampa.
Billings started scratchily - at one stage he was four from 20 balls - but the way he manipulated the field, jumped on loose deliveries in the closing overs and adapted to the game situation showed a real maturity.
He reached a 101-ball century with a powerfully swept four and, although it was ultimately in vain, his performance bodes well for England's long-term future.
Maxwell & Marsh star for Australia
Without Smith, a mainstay for Australia at number three, and a longer tail to accommodate more bowlers, the tourists' batting appeared creakier than usual.
David Warner's lean tour continued as he was bowled by a beautiful 90mph delivery from Archer, before captain Aaron Finch edged Mark Wood's first ball behind.
The top order floundered against leg-spinner Adil Rashid, unable to read his variations. Labuschagne was trapped plumb lbw and wasted a review on the decision, before Alex Carey top-edged a sweep to Billings at square leg.
It took the dogged determination of Marsh, and Maxwell's flamboyancy, to dig Australia out of a hole. Marsh manoeuvred the ball well, finding the singles, while Maxwell went on the attack with four sixes, including back-to-back swipes off Archer.
Although Maxwell fell to the next ball, under-edging Archer onto his stumps, Australia were able to scramble the singles and occasionally punch the ball to the boundary.
As England found out themselves, this was not an easy pitch to time shots on - and ultimately, Australia's late surge from Maxwell and Marsh proved to be enough.
'It slipped away from us' - what they said
England captain Eoin Morgan: "It slipped away from us in the first 10 overs with the bat, they didn't give us much to get away with. We did reasonably well with the ball, we thought it was a reasonable score.
"I thought Jonny and Sam keeping in us in the game for so long, if we kept that partnership until the 40th over we would have been in the game.
"Sam's opportunities over the last four years have been extremely limited and sporadic at times but to come in and show hunger in his training, it's outstanding, it shows a lot of resilience and character.
"When Ben Stokes is missing he leaves a big hole with the ball and the bat, we have a lot of players who bat in the top four for their counties but we need to add depth to those who bat at six, and Sam has done that."
England centurion Sam Billings on BBC Test Match Special: "I'm disappointed I couldn't get the team over the line. It's mixed feelings.
"It's been a long time coming and I'm glad on a personal level to get a score.
"They bowled fantastically well. The surface was tricky, I don't think anybody got going all day in terms of fluency."

Interesting game I thought. Australia deserved to win in the end but England made them work for it.
Really happy for Billings because he cops a lot of flak on these HYSs. Hopefully that will shut the doubters up.

Great by Billings whose pathetically been labelled as 'rubbish' on here over the last week. If Bairstow had stayed we could have nicked it but fair play Hazelwood great catch to get rid of him and miserly bowling. He was the difference. Roy needs to show just the tiniest bit of patience.

Yes very True and sounded a great game on TMS too.
Yes disciplined innings and thought Bairstow and Billings had it steady with they were playing.
Yes a more mature batting from Bairstow and deserved a 100 but it was not to be.

Sometimes the other team are just flat out better. Well played Australia, exceptional bowling up top which pretty much won the game there and then.
Doesn’t feel right praising the Aussies...need to shower now.

Well played Oz.
We lost it in the run chase in the first 10. Never took it to their bowlers who were excellent. Root can't bat at 3 if he plays like that once one of the openers has gone cheaply. Couldn't lay a bat on the ball until he edged it.
Still it's set it up well for the next one. Looking forward to it.

In all fairness, nobody could lay bat on ball in the first 10 overs. How many times did Bairstow play and miss? On another day he gets a single figure score. Hazelwood and Cummings were the difference today.

Not every game goes your way. Given how badly the batting started for England, I actually thing to get within 19 runs was a brilliant effort and shows what a tough side they are. In reality, one bit of luck the other way, getting Maxwell out cheap, or Buttler getting a few boundaries in before getting out...and we probably would have won today.

The difference between the sides was that England didn't score as much off the good bowling, it could have been a much different story if we were 35/40-1 after 10 instead of 22-2. Class from Billings though, a few more scores and he'll be giving the selectors a real headache when Stokes comes back

Diana Rigg died six months after being diagnosed with cancer
She died "peacefully" on Thursday morning, said her agent
"I will miss her beyond words," said her daughter Rachael Stirling
London:
Stars of stage and screen on Thursday paid tribute to Diana Rigg, the award-winning British actress who shot to fame in the 1960s television series The Avengers and won new fans in Game Of Thrones, after her death aged 82. Diana Rigg, who won Emmy, Tony and Bafta awards during her lengthy career on both sides of the Atlantic, died six months after being diagnosed with cancer. Simon Beresford, her agent, said in a statement that she had died "peacefully" early on Thursday morning at home with her family, who had asked for privacy.
"Dame Diana was a much loved and admired member of her profession, a force of nature who loved her work and her fellow actors," he added. "She will be greatly missed." Diana Rigg's daughter, the actress Rachael Stirling, said her mother had "spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. "I will miss her beyond words," she added.
She worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) after classical training at Britain's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). But it was as the cat-suited Emma Peel to Patrick Macnee's bowler-hatted John Steed in the swashbuckling television spy series The Avengers that she became household name. Some saw the high-kicking action role as a symbol of women's new-found power at the height of the Swinging Sixties, winning her an international profile and a legion of admirers.
For Diana Rigg it was a catapult to success, as she went on to become one of Britain's leading character actresses, many of them displaying the same intelligence and steel as Mrs Peel. "Diana Rigg's combination of force of personality, beauty, courage and sheer emotional power, made her a great classical actress - one of an astonishing generation of British stage performers," said theatre and opera director Jonathan Kent. "Her dazzling wit and that inimitable voice made her an unforgettable leading figure in British theatre."
A smile for everyone
In an early role, she famously played James Bond's wife, Tracy, in the 1969 film starring George Lazenby, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Bond franchise producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli praised Rigg's performance as the one woman who got the fictional superspy to the altar.
"The legendary stage and screen actress... was much beloved by Bond fans for her memorable performance as Tracy di Vicenzo in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the only woman to have married James Bond," they said. In the later stages of her career, Diana Rigg won legions of younger fans and critical praise for her part as Olenna Tyrell in the hugely popular Game Of Thrones series.
Other film roles included the 1994 comedy-drama A Good Man In Africa, adapted from a William Boyd novel, and the 2017 biographical drama Breathe, directed by Andy Serkis. "For half her life Diana was the most beautiful woman in the room, but she was what used to be called a Trouper," said playwright and screenwriter Tom Stoppard, who called her talent "luminous". She went to work with her sleeves rolled up and a smile for everyone," he added.
Diana Rigg will, though, be best remembered as one of Britain's theatre greats. She won the 1994 best actress Tony Award after playing the title role in the Greek tragedy Medea in both London and New York, and also claimed a best supporting actress Emmy for the 1997 miniseries Rebecca. Fellow veteran playwright David Hare said she had "a dazzling change of direction in middle age as a great classical actor. She swept all before her," he added of several of her most prominent performances.

THE EDITOR: During the early part of the 20th century, the Trinidad Colonial Government built the Crown Point Airport. At that time the airport consisted of a grass airstrip/runway, a terminal building and a weather vane. It was lit by “bull de feas.” Eddie Gordon rode a bicycle along the runway to light the “bull de feas” located along its unfenced perimeter.
It is reported that Commander Cook landed his Cessna plane at Crown Point.
This, the first phase of airport construction at Crown Point, reportedly “took” the Crooks’ and McPhersons’ ancestral lands. At that time the surrounding villagers referred to the airport as “baseground.” Who knows if these former landowners were ever compensated for their lands?
The second phase was done at the time of the Second World War. It saw the Americans trespassing and bulldozing people’s lands. Reportedly, landowners were paid for their fruit trees alone. They were not compensated for their lands. This phase took the runway into Cromstain.
Decades later, the Eric Williams-led PNM government embarked on the third phase and extended the runway through Gaskin into Kilgwyn. This extension effectively denied the community the ability to “play bakes,” to run races and to play football at Kilgwyn Bay. It also denied access to Cromstain Bay, thus negatively impacting the weekend and holiday family socialisation for which Cromstain Bay was famous.
Yet again, the issue of adequate compensation arises. It must be asked whether Gaskin landowners such as Alvin Patrick, Anthony and the Youngs were adequately compensated.
More recently, in May 2018, the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) collaborated with the Airports Authority and traumatised the Cromstain and Gaskin landowners as they unmasked plan to acquire 84 acres of prime Cromstain and Gaskin residential/commercial lands.
The government team told the residents and business owners that in order to facilitate the airport project they must start vacating their properties by July that year. The government team told the residents/businessmen that they would be relocated at Friendship and Shirvan. Interestingly, no infrastructure was in place at those sites.
Insensitivity! This was the apex of trauma.
It must be noted that:
1. Firstly, the airport extension may result in expanded air traffic and increased visitor arrivals in Tobago – despite the current negative impact of the “plandemic.” This begs the question of Tobago’s preparedness to provide quality customer service and healthcare.
2. Secondly, the National Petroleum storage facility is located in close proximity to the runway. The well-known axiom states “that which can fail, will fail.” Indeed, Tobago must seriously contemplate the dire consequences of an aircraft mishap at that facility.
May I therefore ask: what disaster recovery and business continuity plan does the Airports Authority, Caribbean Airlines and the THA have to manage this eventuality? Shouldn’t the NP facility be relocated prior to the removal of the Cromstain and Gaskin residents?
Today, I write before the affected residents are left in the rain to shelter under cheques that have grossly diminished the value of their prime real estate.
Today, I write before the descendants who for generations lived on/occupied ancestral lands and are currently being evicted, and are being reduced to destitution, pauperisation and vagrancy.
Today, I appeal to the Canaan/Bon Accord assemblyman, I implore Nidco, I beseech the Member of Parliament for Tobago West, I ask the Prime Minister and all those who have ears, to listen, to hear, and to address the plight of these adversely affected Tobagonians.
The affected residents are asking the State to seek their best interests and to extend to them the same duty of care as afforded to those landowners/squatters in Trinidad in respect of the Curepe Interchange, Oropune Gardens, and the highway in Debe.
The cry, the plea, the lament is: provide equivalent equitable compensation for everyone.
Putin apology to Serbia over Russian spokeswoman Zakharova

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a rare apology to his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic for a senior Russian official's Facebook post which angered Mr Vucic.
Mr Vucic told Serbian TV about the apology and the Kremlin confirmed it.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova posted a photo of Mr Vucic sitting opposite President Donald Trump in the White House and below it a photo of actress Sharon Stone's legs.
Ms Zakharova herself later apologised.
The provocative screenshot of the crossed legs came from the film Basic Instinct, in a scene where Sharon Stone's character briefly exposes herself.
Ms Zakharova's post said Mr Vucic looked as if he was being interrogated by President Trump.
"If you are invited to the White House but your chair stands like you are in an interrogation, you should sit like in the picture number 2. Whoever you are. Just trust me," Ms Zakharova wrote.

image captionMaria Zakharova was thought to be taking aim at Serbian-US ties
On Sunday she updated the post with an apology, saying her comments had been misunderstood. She said she was taking aim at American "arrogance", not the Serbian leader.
On Thursday Mr Vucic told Serbian TV: "President Putin has never apologised to me for anything, and neither has [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergei Lavrov. But both did."
Mr Vucic said he had spoken to Mr Putin by phone, and he added: "I think we have good relations and for me this was a passing, unimportant incident."
Vucic fury at 'vulgarity'
Ms Zakharova's post came after Mr Vucic had signed a co-operation deal with Kosovo at the White House, and has been seen as a sign of Russian irritation with Serbian-US ties.

image captionVladimir Putin, left, and Aleksandar Vucic have a good relationship
Serbia has long been a key ally of Russia's in the Balkans, and neither country recognises Kosovo's independence.
Mr Vucic was furious with Ms Zakharova's post. In televised comments he said "Maria Zakharova speaks mostly about herself, and the primitivism and vulgarity she showed speaks of her, and by God, of those who placed her there".

Samsung Galaxy M31s
Samsung launched the Galaxy M31s at Rs. 19,499, but at the time of updating this guide, its price has increased to Rs. 20,499 on its online store. Samsung has a habit of constantly tweaking its prices, so by the time you read this article, we wouldn't be surprised if the price has increased or decreased by a small margin yet again.
We think the Galaxy M31s a decent update to the Galaxy M31. It has a higher starting price, but for this extra money you get an Infinity-O AMOLED display, a higher capacity bundled charger, and a slightly tweaked design. It retains many of the things that made the Galaxy M31 great, such as the large 6,000mAh battery, but also carries forward some negatives such as the dated SoC. That's not to say that the phone can't handle Android well, but compared to what the competition offers at around this price, the processor definitely feels weak.
The cameras are decent but video stabilisation is not great and low-light photos don't have the best details. However, if having the best battery life is top priority for you, then the Galaxy M31s is still among the best in its class.
Realme 7 Pro
The more premium model in Realme's 7-series, the Realme 7 Pro features some big upgrades over the Realme 6 Pro such as the use of an AMOLED display, 65W fast charging, and stereo speakers. With a higher starting price of Rs. 19,999, the new model does have a unique mix of features that few others match in this segment. 65W charging helps charge the battery very quickly and the stereo speakers make watching any content sound more immersive. The new phone is also slimmer and lighter compared to the 6 Pro, which is a nice bonus.
However, you don't get a 90Hz display which is a little disappointing. The 7 Pro also has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC as the 6 Pro, so there's no real performance gain either. The primary rear camera has improved a bit, but once again, you lose out on the ultra wide-angle selfie camera and the rear telephoto camera of the 6 Pro.
While there's no doubt that the Realme 7 Pro is a good phone, it does take a step backwards in some areas, which is why the Realme 6 Pro is also still a viable option in this segment.
Motorola One Fusion+
The Motorola One Fusion+ is a welcome addition to the sub Rs. 20,000 price segment. While the price is very competitive, Motorola has not skimped in terms of hardware. The Motorola One Fusion+ sports a big 6.5-inch display without a notch. This panel is HDR10 certified and has very good viewing angles. It also has a loud bottom-firing speaker that compliments the crisp display. Powering the Motorola One Fusion+ is the very capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC.
It scored very well in our benchmarks. The One Fusion+ is available in one configuration only, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You do have the option to expand storage further using the hybrid dual-SIM tray. Motorola has also packed in a 5,000mAh battery, and this phone comes with an 18W TurboCharger.
It runs clean stock Android and we did not encounter any preinstalled bloatware. Thankfully, it still retains Moto Actions which are useful gesture-based features. The Motorola One Fusion+ sports a four cameras at the back and a pop-up selfie camera. It has a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The camera performance was good in daylight, and the phone was quick to lock focus and meter light correctly. Low-light shots were average but using Night mode made a huge difference. Video recording maxes out at 4K and the phone does a good job at stabilising footage in the daytime.
Redmi Note 9 Pro Max
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is the latest smartphone to join this list of the best phones under Rs. 20,000. When Xiaomi launched this smartphone, it was priced starting under Rs. 15,000, but the GST hike has caused prices to go up. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max shares a lot of hardware with the Redmi Note 9 Pro – both phones sport 6.67-inch displays which are good for video watching but not for single-handed use.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that lets you unlock it quickly. Sticking to current trends, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has four rear cameras but the module protrudes quite a bit. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. Xiaomi offers it in three variants: the base variant has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and is priced at Rs. 16,999; the middle one offers 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and is priced at Rs. 18,499. The top variant is priced at Rs 19,999 which is barely under the upper limit for this list.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max packs in a 5,020mAh battery and delivers very good battery life. It also fared very well in our HD video loop test. Xiaomi bundles a 33W charger in the box and this phone charges more quickly than the Redmi Note 9 Pro. The camera performance of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is quite good, but photos tend to be oversharpened at times. Low-light camera performance is average but Night mode helps capture better output.
Poco X2
The first smartphone to come out of Poco after it became an independent entity is the Poco X2. The is not the successor of the Poco F1, but does a lot of things right in its own way. It is tall and has a big 6.67-inch display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. The panel also boasts of a 120Hz refresh rate which isn't very common at this price. The Poco X2 has a dual-camera punch-hole on the front, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, both of which are slowly becoming more common. The Poco X2 feels large and bulky. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G which is a powerful chip that can handle gaming quite well.
The Poco X2 has multiple variants: 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The prices of the Poco X2 have climbed since its launch and the base variant now starts at Rs. 17,499 while the middle one is priced at Rs 18,499 and the top variant is still at Rs. 20,999.
Poco has packed in a 4,500mAh battery and you get a 27W charger in the box. This phone sports a quad-camera setup at the back and we noticed that the photo quality in daylight is quite good. Low-light photo quality was also relatively impressive but not as detailed as during the day. Low-light video quality wasn't as good.
Realme 6 Pro
The Realme 6 Pro was launched alongside the Realme 6, and both smartphones have made it to our lists at their respective prices. The Realme 6 Pro has a 6.6-inch display with a dual-camera hole-punch for the selfie cameras. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC just like the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. The device is well designed but is a little slippery as it has a glass back. This phone is also a little heavy at 202g. One unique feature of theRealme 6 Pro is its 90Hz screen refresh rate. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that is easy to reach and quick to unlock the phone.
The Realme 6 Pro is offered in three variants: 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The base variant starts at Rs. 17,999 while the other variants are priced at Rs. 18,999 and Rs 19,999 respectively.
There's a quad-camera setup at the back. Camera performance was decent in daylight and for close-ups, but low-light camera performance needs some improvement. The Realme 6 Pro has a 4300mAh battery which isn't as big as some of the other phones in the list but it delivered excellent battery life when we reviewed it.
Samsung Galaxy M31
Samsung has been focusing on the sub Rs. 20,000 market with its Galaxy M-series, and the Galaxy M31 is currently the best in the lineup. This model has a 6.4-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display that delivers vivid colours and very good viewing angles. There is a quad-camera setup at the back with a 64-megapixel primary camera. It also packs a big 6,000mAh battery and a capable Exynos 9611 SoC.
Samsung offers the Galaxy M31 with 6GB of RAM and two storage options, 64GB and 128GB. Prices start at Rs. 16,499 for the base model while the higher model is priced at Rs. 18,999. The big battery offers fantastic battery life and this phone could easily go on for two days. The cameras are good in daylight, the wide-angle one offers a wider field of view but loses out on details compared to the primary camera. We did notice that the camera AI can go overboard in terms of saturating colours. The primary camera is a little slow while focusing and you can see minor grain in the output. With Night mode enabled, the Galaxy M31 delivers better low-light shots. We found video stabilisation to be average as well.
The Exynos 9611 SoC is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 720G powering the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and the Realme 6 Pro but it is capable of handling day-to-day tasks with ease. The battery is the highlight of the Galaxy M31 as it can outrun most devices on this list.
Realme X2
The Realme X2 is one of the older phones on this list, but has managed to stand its ground all this while. It has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner, something that the others miss out on. It also packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor similar to the Poco X2. The phone is manageable for day-to-day use and isn't as big as the Poco X2 or the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. The Realme X2 has a quad-camera setup at the back and comes in a variety of colours.
Realme has packed in a 4000mAh battery and ships a 30W fast charger in the box which makes charging quick. The Realme X2 could handle day-to-day tasks and gaming very easily, and the battery lasted us over a day and a half. Realme sells three variants of the X2 in India: the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 17,999, the middle variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at Rs. 19,999, and the 8GB RAM, 128G storage variant is priced at Rs. 20,999.
The quad-camera setup lets you take good photos in daylight. We liked our portrait shots, as the dedicated depth camera helps with edge detection. Low-light camera performance is also good but there is some noise in the output. The Nightscape mode does help improve low-light photography. The low-light video performance wasn't to our liking when we reviewed the Realme X2.

The Moto E (2nd Gen) is definitely not a bad smartphone, but it makes no sense in the current market. The newer hardware on the Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000 are both more powerful and already have 4G compatibility. The Moto E just doesn't provide the value that they do.

Motorola Moto E (2nd Gen) 3G detailed review
When Motorola announced the original Moto E, it was a treat for all of us, and that includes reviewers all over the world. The company showcased why it is one of the pioneers of mobile technology and turned the mobile market head over heels. Motorola showed that you don’t need to shell out month’s salary to get a good device and gave us what was truly a phone for the people.
Fast forward one year ahead, the new Moto E is now here. And it reminds me of that famous comic book adage, “With great power comes great responsibility.” I’ve read a bunch of reviews from my counterparts overseas, who have all appreciated this device. But for us, the Moto E is a much more important smartphone than it is for them. Why? Most of the smartphone buyers in India, buy in the budget segment.
The Moto E (2nd Gen) is a good device, no doubt, but the contest in the budget segment in India is very different from other countries. In a head to head battle against its competitors, like the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000, the new Moto E takes a beating. Here’s how.
Build and Design
On the design front, the new Moto E is essentially an extension of the older one. But there’s a few subtle changes that make this one so much better. The rubberised grip around the side, which hides the SIM and micro-SD slots is very important. It adds grip and will absorb shocks as well. In addition, it gives the phone a unique look, unlike any other.
Motorola’s design philosophy was always more ergonomic than others, but I’ll go as far as to call the new Moto E a beautiful budget device. Why? Because it’s different. That rubber grip, which is available in various colours, makes it stand out against all the bar designs that we get to see these days. Add the curved back and small size and you’ve got a device that’s both easy to use and good looking for its price.
The company adds a solid build on top of this, to leave almost nothing to complain about in the build and design segment. That is, until you see the Xiaomi Redmi 2. There’s a reason why the Chinese firm launched its competitor a few days after Motorola. The Redmi 2, though carrying the boring old bar design, is a better looking phone, which is just as ergonomic. I’m almost finished with that review as well, so watch out for more.
Display
A 4.5 inch display is just about acceptable these days, but a 540x960p resolution isn’t. At the same price, you have the Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000, which both offer 720p resolutions. The Moto E’s display has a better touch experience than the A6000, but it isn’t in the same league as the Xiaomi Redmi 2 display in terms of colors reproduction and sharpness. Yes, we now demand and expect a lot more from a Rs. 7,000 device, a lot has changed since the last Moto E launch. The Moto E’s display does redeem itself, delivering better viewing angles and a lesser reflective display than the Xiaomi Redmi 2. But, overall we’d place the Redmi 2 display above the Moto E, the Redmi scores higher in crucial aspects of the display, especially for a 7K smartphone segment.
OS and User Interface
The Moto E runs on Android Lollipop out of the box and is the only one in this range to do so at the moment. The UI is smooth, with little to no lags and Motorola has brought some useful features to the device. The Moto Display, which shows your notifications without turning the screen on is one of these features, while the Quick Capture feature is also pretty useful for taking quick shots through the camera.
Performance
Me and a bunch of my colleagues from other publications pestered Motorola a lot about choosing the Snapdragon 200 over the newer 410 SoC. Considering that the company went with the 64-bit Lollipop OS for the Moto E, the Snapdragon 410 seems like the logical choice. Nevertheless, Motorola was adamant that the performance wouldn’t suffer because of this.
Well, that’s not true. Using it side by side with the Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000, the Moto E is inferior. Yes, the Moto E offers a more uniform performance than the A6000, but pales in comparison to the Mi device. On regular usage, app launch times and the overall UI experience on the Moto E are pretty satisfactory, but start a game like Marvel: Contest of Champions and the lags creep in. Not only does the game load faster on the Redmi 2, the Moto E makes the Mi device seem like a mid-ranged smartphone.
The benchmarks don’t tell the entire story here. The Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000 are both much more powerful than Moto E.
Camera
Motorola’s compromise on the camera quality used to make sense till last year, because the company got things right in every other department. This time around though, the 5MP rear camera on the Moto E seems worse because of all the other shortcomings. You may be able to take some passable shots with this camera under optimal light conditions, but anything less and you’re looking at really bad images. It is essentially the same camera as the old Moto E, but with auto focus.
While we’re talking about the camera, Motorola ‘heard’ its users this time around and added a VGA camera to the front. Yes, you read that right, a VGA camera, all 0.3 mega pixels of it. For some reason the company thought that was the way to go. Frankly, I would trade the front camera for a faster processor in a heartbeat.
Battery
The one thing that all of us here at the Digit test labs were looking forward to was the larger 2390 mAh battery. Better battery life could make up for a lot of the device’s faults. Sadly though, the Moto E doesn't show any major improvements here. The results on our battery tests were just about satisfactory. With some frugality, I could get the device to last me through the day, just like I could with the older Moto E.
The battery life is at par with the Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000.
Bottomline
As that adage goes, “With great power comes great responsibility.” In my humble opinion, Motorola had the opportunity to deliver the knockout punch to its competition, but failed. The 3G version of the Moto E (2nd Gen) is not one that you should buy. At least not as long as you can buy the Xiaomi Redmi 2 or the Lenovo A6000.
Going with a Snapdragon 410 SoC would have still made this device an incremental update, but combined with Motorola’s brand value and increased customer service efforts, it would have made sense. As things stand though, the 3G version of the Moto E isn’t as value for money as it used to be. It’s not the best device you can buy in the under-7k segment, ahead only of Microsoft’s Lumia 532 and 435. What's even more unfortunate is that the needless 3G/4G skews for the Moto E will drive up the price of the Snapdragon 410-powered 4G variant. That may make it a lesser value device as compared to the Redmi 2, which is already 4G capable.

India registered a record 96,551 coronavirus cases in 24 hours taking the total number of infections to over 45.62 lakh, government data showed today. The country also recorded the highest deaths in a day with 1,2019 fatalities, taking the overall toll to 76,271. This was the second day in a row that a record spike was recorded in both cases and deaths. India had registered 95,735 coronavirus cases in 24 hours and 1,172 fatalities on Thursday.
Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja on Thursday warned against rising cases of coronavirus and possibility of more deaths in the state. She also cautioned that there might be a shortage of ventilators if more elderly people get infected. "We have managed to keep the death toll below 500 till now. Experts have said that under different circumstances, we might have seen close to 10,000 deaths but we managed to avert that till now. But now, with the Unlock process initiated across the country, we will see more deaths. We have to be very careful," Shailaja said.
As many as 64 lakh Indians were infected by the novel coronavirus by early May, the much-awaited findings of the first national serosurvey conducted by the ICMR, have shown. The survey was conducted from May 11 to June 4 and covered 28,000 individuals whose blood samples were tested for IgG antibodies using COVID Kavach ELISA kit. A total of 64,68,388 adult infections were estimated in India by the early May, the survey report said.
The seropositivity was the highest in the age group of 18-45 years (43.3 per cent), followed by those between 46-60 years (39.5 per cent) and it was the lowest among those aged above 60 (17.2 per cent). The survey noted that there could be under-detection of COVID-19 cases in the zero stratum districts on account of low testing as well as poor access to testing laboratories. India has so far recorded 44.65 lakh cases and 75,062 deaths.
The Union health ministry on Thursday issued a revised SOP for conducting examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic, removing the provision that allowed symptomatic candidates who insist on taking an exam to do so in isolation. According to the revised document, in regular course, a symptomatic candidate should be referred to the nearest health centre and given an opportunity to undertake the examination through other means, or the university or educational institution shall arrange for taking the exam at a later date when the student is declared physically fit.
The ministry had on September 2 issued guidelines as per which staff and examinees from containment zones shall not be permitted to be physically present at exam centres and there will be alternative arrangements for such students. Such students shall be given an opportunity to undertake the examination through other means, or universities and educational institutions shall arrange for taking the exam at a later date for them.

Goa seeing community spread of COVID: Rane - The Navhind Times
Panaji: Admitting that the state has been witnessing community transmission of the coronavirus pandemic, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said the single-day spike of COVID cases could go up to 1,000.
Addressing a press conference in a starred hotel in the city, Rane said, “The spike may even go up to 1000 cases a day… we don’t know… and this has been happening because there is community transmission. As a result of which, if a person gets infected his/her family members also contract the virus.”
Rane claimed that the mortality rate among COVID patients with pre-existing co-morbidities is gradually dropping, reckoning that fatalities can be arrested only if people report to hospital on time.
The minister informed that three top private hospitals treating coronavirus patients are running at full capacity, so also the dedicated COVID wards of the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
“As there are no beds available at the GMC for COVID patients, we have decided to convert the ophthalmology ward of the GMC as another dedicated ward for treating critical COVID patients,” Rane said.
He acknowledged that the viral photograph depicting patients sleeping in one of the COVID wards at the GMC is authentic, assuring to ensure that beds are provided to all patients coming to the hospital.
Rane announced that a free medical kit comprising an oximeter and digital thermometer will be provided by the government to the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic COVID patients who avail the option of home isolation.
The kit will also contain a spirometer, a hand sanitiser, a N95 mask, a triple-layered mask, gloves, vitamin C tablets, Vitamin D tablets, and hydroxychloroquine tablets.
“We anticipate that as cases go up more and more people will opt for home isolation. PHCs of the state will be the nodal bodies for distributing kits to home-isolated patients. The concerned health officer will guide the patients on using the tools and medicines that will be provided in the kit,” the Health Minister explained.
He said that a team of doctors and officials of the Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation will inspect the South Goa District Hospital in Margao on Saturday. The district hospital has been designated as a COVID Hospital, which will be operationalised at the earliest.
Rejecting the claims that convalescent plasma therapy is not effective in reducing deaths associated with COVID, Rane said the therapy has yielded results for doctors in Goa.
The health department will continue with the combination of CPT and Remdesivir – the life-saving drug – as part of the COVID treatment protocol, he said.
“…Even our director of health services Dr Jose D’Sa was administered two doses of plasma. He is completely stable today… it was because of CPT that was given to him,” Rane said, adding that COVID survivors are coming forward to donate plasma.
Seventy-odd packets of plasma are currently available with the GMC.

OPPO F3 detailed review
Oppo is increasing investments in India compared to what it was doing two or three years back. The company laid out big expansion plans back in 2016, and was reportedly investing $216 million in manufacturing facilities in India. Oppo wanted to eventually produce 100 million units in the country. In addition, the company has put its foot on the gas, advertising its new selfie centric phones on all kinds of platforms. Oppo even sponsors the Indian cricket team, starting next month.
All this is done on the back of a few phones, of which, the Oppo F3 and F3 Plus seem to be the forerunners. There are other phones in the company’s arsenal as well, but at the moment the company’s focus seems to be on selfies. Not just Oppo, other Chinese OEMs such as Gionee and Vivo are also ringing the same selfie bell at the moment, with large and wide advertising campaigns. Now, whether you want a selfie centric phone is up to you, but in our books, a phone should be more than just selfies, and while the Oppo F3 Plus did impress us, we are yet to see whether the smaller Oppo F3 can retain the same charm.
Selfies: Dual-camera, doubly good?
The Oppo F3 Plus was the best selfie centric smartphone we tested this year and the Oppo F3 tries to imitate it. There is a similar 16MP + 8MP dual camera setup at the front for solo and group selfies respectively. Like the F3 Plus, the 16MP camera here has 76.4 degree FOV and the 8MP camera has 120 degree FOV. Even the f/2.0 aperture is kept the same. That said, there are differences in the camera quality. The F3 tends to shoot slightly oversaturated colours, whereas the colour captured by the F3 Plus are nearer to being neutral. However, quality of overall images, including details, dynamic range and depth of field, remains almost at par, with the F3 Plus edging ahead in some pictures.
On its own, the Oppo F3 has good details, colours are pleasantly oversaturated, and noise is kept to acceptable levels. Photos are slightly soft, to remove skin blemishes and make selfies look better, but whether you like that will be a subjective opinion.
Compared to the Gionee A1, which has been the best phone for selfie aficionados available under 20K, the F3 is better. The Oppo F3 not only captures better details and colours in normal lighting conditions, but does a better job overall in low light as well. Photography enthusiasts may still find images lacking proper details and softer focus is somewhat annoying. But, at the end of the day, the Oppo F3 is now best selfie smartphone in the sub-20K range. There are some niggles, like the camera occasionally takes a little time in post processing when you are taking bokeh images or when switching between various filters, but these things are not really deal breakers.
Primary camera: Good, not great
At the back, the Oppo F3 uses a tried and tested 13MP sensor, which takes good pictures for the most part. I observed decent colour reproduction and dynamic range, but softer photos, that seem to be produced by the same algorithm as the selfies. In the case of the rear camera, it’s more of an issue though.
This also means that while images look fine on the phone or even on a laptop display, one can easily see noise at native resolution (4160 x 3120). The noise levels rise further in low light, but images are good enough to share on Facebook. Yes, there are phones with better rear cameras at the same price, but this is amongst the better ones too.
Images taken by the Oppo F3
Build and Design: Smaller, yet the same
Oppo has always followed a pretty decent design language and build quality, and that doesn't change with the Oppo F3. However, compared to the F3 Plus, the build quality does feel a bit inferior. The F3 Plus was built with more finesse and polish.
That being said, in the sub-20K smartphone bracket, there are only a few phones that are better built better, with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Gionee A1 and Nubia M2 Lite being perfect examples. The Oppo F3 is slimmer and lighter than the older Oppo F1s, putting it at par with most selfie phones it competes with. Now, one may complain that the phone looks like the old F1s or like any other phone in the market, and they won’t be wrong. Unfortunately, Oppo seems to be unwilling to innovate on its design. The Oppo F3 is good looking, but not new.
Display: Nice!
The Oppo F3’s display is truly nice, and that’s about as vague as you can get about it. The fact is there’s nothing really special to be written about this display, but it’s not something to be trifled with either. In practical terms it has has vibrant colours, good touch response and very good viewing angles. If you want to go into numbers, it is a 1080p in-cell IPS panel, and it’s one of the best in the business.
That being said, it could have been better too. The colours are not as vibrant as the Gionee A1’s AMOLED display, although it has higher resolution and at 765 Lux, feels brighter. I would also like to point out that the auto-brightness is well calibrated and there is a blue light filter as well for people who read or browse at night.
UI: iOS inspired
Nothing has changed from the last time we saw this UI. It is the same ColorOS 3.0 as the one we saw on the Oppo F3 Plus. Layered on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is the first misstep anyway. After all, why is a phone in 2017 still using a two-year-old OS? Yes, the industry at large is doing it, but that’s only a sign of OEMs taking advantage of lack of consumer awareness.
Other than that, ColourOS looks and tries to function like iOS. It’s easy to understand and quite colourful. For the convenience of familiarity, the icons designs and the settings layout is very similar to iOS. However, the quick toggle menu is still a drop down from the top. Oppo has also included gestures and things like app cloning so that one can easily make use of dual SIMs to use dual Whatsapp accounts for example. There is a theme manager, a RAM booster app, lock-screen magazine feature, cloud backup and a secondary app store. The UI also offers a set of simple yet good looking apps for music, videos, clock, photos, weather, file manager and even email.
Performance: Lacking the punch
Under the hood, the phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6750T SoC, which is paired with 4GB of RAM. Now, this SoC has been around for more than two years and has been used by more than a dozen smartphones, some of which are as inexpensive as Rs. 8,000. The point is, it is not a very performance oriented SoC and that shows here. While the phone can handle almost all kinds of apps, one notices occasional stutters and sluggishness. This became quite apparent when I tried gaming on the phone. Games like Asphalt 8 ran at below 30 fps, while those that weren’t capped to 30fps, were usually getting as far as 40-45fps. It’s not particularly unplayable, but the experience is sub-par to say the least. You see lags and frame drops often.
There were also occasional app crashes and the camera app sometimes takes a little more time to take a selfie, which is supposed to be the prime feature of this phone.
On the other hand, call quality is decent and audio volume via the single speaker at the bottom is adequate. But, like every other smartphone in the same price bracket, audio quality is nothing worth writing home about. Via headphones, the phone really shines and offers good overall output.
Battery: Just enough
The 3200mAh battery on the phone can keep up with even the heaviest users and would last a normal work day easily, with at max 30 minutes of gaming. If you are not into gaming or don’t use navigation that often, the phone will definitely last you more than 12-15 hours in a day. Once you put it on charge, the phone gets fully charged under two hours and does not support any kind of fast charging, including Oppo’s own VOOC charging technology. It seems VOOC is another feature the company is reserving for its flagship devices.
Bottomline: For selfies only
To sum it all, the Oppo F3 takes the best selfies of any phone under Rs. 20,000. However, it’s not a very good overall performer. Consider it for selfies, but the Moto G5 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and the Coolpad Cool 1 are better overall performers.

Infinix note 4 detailed review
If you are looking for a smartphone priced in the sub 10k segment, you are spoiled for choice with smartphones that offer a number of great features. From smooth performance, to good battery life and premium build and design, customers on a budget of under 10k can get a bang for their buck. The sub 10k price segment is populated with devices such as the Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4A, Yu Yureka Black, Lenovo K6 Power and more. Today we have with us a new entry in this segment – the Infinix Note 4. Does this smartphone deserve your attention?
Build and Design
When the phone is kept face down, you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s a Samsung Galaxy S7. That’s because of the way the rear panel curves at the edges, the position of the camera and the glossy gold colour gives it a Samsung vibe and that isn’t a bad thing, since Samsung’s mid-range and high-end phones are extremely well designed. But pick up the phone in your hand and you realise that the rear plastic panel is a fingerprint magnet that’s susceptible to scratches too. It’s a good thing the smartphone comes with a screen guard and a rear protective case in the box. The back also houses the camera along with the LED flash.
Coming to the front, you have a 5.7-inch full HD display below which rests the fingerprint sensor (which also doubles up as a physical home button). On either side of the fingerprint sensor are two capacitive buttons that work as the back and multitasking buttons. Above the display, we have the earpiece on either side of which rests the front facing camera and the front flash, along with the ambient light sensor.
The bottom of the device has the micro-USB charging port. There are two speaker grills (one on either side of the microUSB port), but the sound output comes from only one making it a mono speaker. The smartphone is 8.4mm thick and the device weighs 204 grams.
The back panel of the smartphone is removable, giving you access to the two sim card slots and the MicroSD card slot. It’s nice to see a dedicated microSD card slot and not a hybrid slot found on so many other devices. You also have the 4300mAh battery on the smartphone, which is non-removable.
Overall, the design of the phone is run of the mill. The rear panel, though removable, doesn’t add value since the battery isn’t removable. It’s made of plastic and easily susceptible to scratches and fingerprints. It's not ideal in a world where we have devices like the Xiaomi Redmi 4, offering a good metal build. The smartphone does have a metal frame, but it is susceptible to scratches.
Display
Coming to the display, it’s a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 1920x1080p resolution. In our luminance test, the phone showed a maximum of 444 lux, which isn’t far behind the Redmi Note 4 (474 lux). We consumed a lot of content on the display, from social media, trendy wallpapers, YouTube videos and more, and the display appears quite acceptable. The viewing angles are decent and the colour reproduction is good. If you are watching a movie and there are a bunch of night scenes or scenes in dimly lit situations, then it will be quite reflective. There are really slim black borders all around the display and unless you have a keen eye, you won’t notice them, as they don’t hamper the overall experience.
When it comes to details in YouTube videos, we rendered the videos in 1080p and saw that the blacks and some details are better than that on the Redmi Note 4.
UI
Moving to the UI, the smartphone runs on Android Nougat straight out-of-the-box, and the companies own XOS 2.2 overlaid on it. The UI itself doesn’t bring anything that we haven’t seen before, in terms of customisation, but does come with a bunch of preloaded apps.
You have a Power app that is essentially an app to help you optimise battery consumption. You can put the device in ultra power saving mode as well. There's also an app called shuffle that shuffles the wallpaper. It is a gimmicky app, but one that you may end up visiting often. It comes with a preloaded security app as well.
Performance
When it comes to everyday performance, the smartphone shows noticeable lag, especially if you have a bunch of apps open. Basic tasks like calling, messaging, social networking, etc. worked fine.
Heavy games like Asphalt 8 cannot run at stable framerate. In fact, there are times when the game looked like it was running in stop motion. So, if you are looking to play graphically heavy games, you need to look elsewhere.
Camera
Coming to the camera, the rear has a 13MP sensor and the front has an 8MP camera. Starting with the front camera, it softens the image a bit, which makes selfies look good. There is a front facing flash too, for low light conditions, but don’t expect the world from it.
Moving to the rear camera, it is a 13MP shooter and for well-lit situations it gets the job done. There are times when images in well-lit situations appear overexposed so you may want to carefully chose your focus points or switch to manual.
The camera on the smartphone has the standard set of features, such as smile recognition, gesture recognition to click pictures and more, and these features work well.
Battery life
Coming to the battery life, this is where the smartphone does well. It has a 4300 mAh battery, which lasted for almost 11 hours on the PC Mark Work 2.0 test. If you are a light user, you can look at more than a day and a half worth of battery life. If you are a heavy user, and considering the fact that the device can’t run heavy games, this would be classified as making a lot of calls, Netflix or YouTube content consumption and social media, the device should make it through the day.
Bottomline
The Infinix Note 4 is a run of the mill Android smartphone. It has a good display, good battery life, an average camera, and that’s about it. Sure, there is a dedicated microSD card slot if that’s something you are looking for, but if a holistic smartphone experience is something you are looking for and have a budget of under 10k, there are better value for money devices available in the market.

"Massing Of Chinese Troops" A Strong Concern, India Tells China: Sources
The immediate task, "to prevent any untoward incident in the future", is "to ensure a comprehensive disengagement of troops in all the friction areas," India told China, sources said
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow on Thursday.
New Delhi:
India highlighted its "strong concern at the massing of Chinese troops with equipment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC)", the de facto border between the two countries, at the meeting between Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow on Thursday evening, sources have said. "The provocative behavior of Chinese frontline troops at numerous incidents of friction along the LAC also showed disregard for bilateral agreements and protocols," Beijing was told.
"The presence of such large concentration of troops was not in accordance with the 1993 and 1996 agreements and created flash points along the LAC. The Chinese side has not provided a credible explanation for this deployment," the Foreign Ministry told China at the meeting that lasted for nearly two hours, adding that "Indian troops scrupulously followed all agreements and protocols".
The immediate task, "to prevent any untoward incident in the future", is "to ensure a comprehensive disengagement of troops in all the friction areas," India told China, sources said, as New Delhi stressed that an "urgent resolution of the current situation was in the interest of both nations".
The two countries, at the meeting, agreed on a five-point plan to resolve the prolonged border face-off in eastern Ladakh that included abiding by all existing agreements and protocol on management of the frontier, maintaining peace and tranquility and avoiding any action that could escalate matters.
India-China relations have developed a largely positive trajectory since the "resumption of Ambassadorial level relations in 1976 and holding of boundary talks since 1981," the Foreign Ministry underlined at the meeting, officials said. While India acknowledged that "a solution to the boundary question required time and effort", it also clarified the "maintenance of peace and tranquility on the border areas was essential to the forward development of ties".
"The recent incidents in eastern Ladakh, however, inevitably impacted the development of the bilateral relationship," Beijing was told.
The Indian Army and the Chinese People's Liberation Army(PLA) have been locked in a standoff along the LAC in eastern Ladakh since early May.
The Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) issued a joint press statement early on Friday featuring five points which were agreed by both the sides at the "frank and constructive" discussions by the two ministers.
"The two Foreign Ministers agreed that the current situation in the border areas is not in the interest of either side. They agreed, therefore, that the border troops of both sides should continue their dialogue, quickly disengage, maintain proper distance and ease tensions," it said.
Both sides "should take guidance from the series of consensus of the leaders on developing India-China relations, including not allowing differences to become disputes," it further stressed.

The hilarious incident of alligator's pool float shared by the official Twitter account of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office describing the scenario created a buzz on social media.
Last Updated: September 11, 2020, 1:11 PM IST
A distressed couple in Florida called 911 after spotting an alligator in their garage. When the police officer arrived for their help, what he discovered left him relieved and smiling.
It turns out that the alligator was actually a pool floatie. The police officer posed with the floatie to get himself photographed. The incident happened in Florida’s Polk County.
Taking to Twitter, Polk County Sheriff posted the photograph of the officer with the fake alligator, along with a picture of the pool floaties lying in the garage. The caption with the picture said that the officer Deputy Trexler went to the storage shed after receiving an emergency call. It said, “He came… he saw… he conquered the beast. He even knocked the wind out of it. Literally. The gator turned out to be a pool floatie.”
There were several hashtags on the Twitter post like #PCSO, #Crikey, #TheGatorHunter and #TuneInNextTimeWhenHeWrestlesAPoolNoodle.
The phrase Crikey was mostly used by Australian TV star Steve Irwin, who was a crocodile hunter. He died in 2006 when a stingray’s barb pierced his chest.
As per Click Orlando, the woman living in White Haven called 911 on August 24 at around 1:40 pm when her husband spotted what he thought was an alligator. He was moving boxes when he saw it and asked his wife to call 911 for support.
On the call, she shared whatever details her husband had given while also mentioning that their garage is close to the pool of the complex.
When asked the size of the alligator, she said she hasn’t seen it but the husband says it’s huge.
Reacting to the funny incident, one user said, “Heroism and humor. Our wonderful Polk County Sheriffs are the BEST!”

2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS spy shots - Photo credit: S. Baldauf/SB-Medien
We now have fresh spy shots of an EQS, a large electric sedan to sit alongside the latest S-Class. Mercedes execs have previously hinted at the car starting production in 2020, which means we'll likely see it arrive in showrooms next year as a 2021 or 2022 model.
The latest prototypes have lost a lot of the camouflage gear of earlier testers, revealing that the EQS is a liftback sedan akin to the Tesla Model S, high-end versions of which will be its main target. Other targets will include the new Lucid Air, an electric Jaguar XJ soming soon, and to a lesser extent the Porsche Taycan and related Audi E-Tron GT.

We also have some shots of the interior which features a large, portrait-style infotainment screen similar to the one in the new S-Class revealed earlier in September. Expect advanced voice activation, a head-up display with augmented reality graphics, and a digital instrument cluster with 3D graphics.
The car's platform is a dedicated battery-electric design known as the MEA2 (Mercedes Electric Architecture), and the EQS is just the first application. MEA1 underpins the EQC and is based on a modified version of Mercedes' MHA platform for SUVs with internal-combustion engines.
2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS prototype and Vision EQS concept
We can see that the EQS is a lot lower and sleeker than your typical Mercedes, including the CLS and AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. We can also see in some of the shots that the doors will be frameless and feature extendable handles. Mercedes previewed the design with the Vision EQS concept unveiled during September's Frankfurt International Motor Show.
The MEA2 platform has enabled the designers to add a long wheelbase and short overhangs front and rear, and although the EQS looks to be similar in size to the mid-size CLS, the interior space should be on par or better than the full-size S-Class.

Given the rapid advancement in battery technology, Mercedes is keeping quiet on specs for its future electric cars. However, we know the EQS will come in several grades including one with a range of 435 miles when measured on the WLTP test cycle used overseas. This could still result in a range of over 400 miles when measured on the stricter EPA test cycle.
