
England vs Australia (ENG vs AUS) 1st ODI Highlights: Australia, batting first in the 1st ODI vs England in Manchester, scored 294/9 in their 50 overs. England, led by a Sam Billings 118, fell 19 runs short, scoring 275/9.
Australia lost their openers David Warner (6) and Aaron Finch (16) early. Marcus Stoinis, promoted to 3 in Steve Smith’s absence, scored a quickfire 43 before falling. Marnus Labuschagne (21) was trapped LBW by Adil Rashid. Rashid struck again to remove Alex Carey (10) soon after. Mitchell Marsh (73) and Glenn Maxwell (77) then put on a partnership that set Australia on the road to recovery. They took the score from 123/5 to 249/5 before both of them fell in an attempt to accelerate the scoring. Their partnership was the highest 6th wicket stand for Australia against England in ODIs, beating a 29-year-old record.
England were off to a horrible start in their chase but were given some momentum in the chase by a 5th wicket partnership between Jonny Bairstow (84) and Sam Billings (118), who scored his highest ODI score. Josh Hazlewood (3/26) and Adam Zampa (4/55) were the wreckers-in-chief. Billings kept England’s hopes alive till the last over, but he was out off the last ball, England falling 19 runs short.

Billings moves to an even more aggressive gear. 13 off the 41st over, with Billings coming down the track to Marsh and smashing him for a six on the leg side. 10 runs in Zampa's 42nd.
