Appeal after man charged with photographing girl at North Mackay store

Queensland police are appealing for anyone with female children who was at a North Mackay Bunnings on the weekend to come forward, after charging a 25-year-old man over the alleged photographing of a child at the store.

The man was charged after police began an investigation into the alleged photographing of an eight-year-old girl at the Bunnings North Mackay store on September 5.

Police allege the man indecently photographed the girl while she was shopping with her family.

Detectives from the Mackay Child Protection and Investigation Unit searched an address at Ball Bay and arrested the man.

Police discovered photos of other young girls, also at the store, on a mobile phone during the search and are attempting to identify the girls.

Investigators are asking anyone who was at the Bunnings North Mackay between 11am and midday on Saturday, September 5, in the company of girls between five and 15 years to come forward.

The man was charged with one count each of indecent treatment of a child under 16, possessing child exploitation material, breach of bail and failure to comply with reporting conditions.

He appeared at Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody for another appearance on December 2.
