PANCHKULA: Despite advisory regarding online frauds issued by Panchkula police, people still are falling into the trap of fraudsters. Three online fraud cases were reported with the Panchkula police in a single day.
Tanvi Kathuria, a resident of Sector 17, reported to the cops that an online I-Phone seller told her that he dealt with people only through WhatsApp. She got lured with the combo deal of i-Phone, watch and earphones that the accused offered her. She made a payment of Rs 30,000 through Paytm to the accused, but her products were never delivered.

“I trusted the accused person because I also deal with books, online lectures of CA, CS and also deliver pen drives containing lectures,” said the victim. The police then registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 14 police station.
In another complaint by Ramesh Kumar Thakur, a resident of Sector 12, it was stated that the complainant received a call from an unknown person and the woman claimed to be calling from SBI bank. She told him that she would help him in increasing his credit card limit and asked for the complainant’s credit card details.
When he provided his bank details, the caller asked to give her OTP received on his mobile phone. As soon as he gave his OTP, the woman made five transactions of Rs 29,500 each and withdrew Rs 1,47,500 from his bank account.
The police have registered a case under Sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC at Sector 14 police station.
The third complaint was given to the cops by Sham Sundar Singla, a resident of Sector 12. He reported to the police that he searched for Paytm customer care service number on Google to report a complaint regarding delivery of wrong product. He dialed the number and the person asked him to download Anydesk App on his mobile phone so that disputed money could be credited into his account. As soon as he downloaded the app, the accused told him to check the balance on PhonePe App and as soon as he logged into the app, the victim found that the accused had withdrawn Rs 95,000 from his bank account through five different transactions. The police registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC at Sector 14 police station.
The cyber cell of the Panchkula police issued advisories against increasing cybercrime and also requested residents to not fall into the trap as the fraudsters were highly active these days.
