A person thought by rescuers to be trapped after a crash sent a vehicle hurtling 100m down a mountain was later found by rescuers in a nearby village.
Mountain rescue teams, the air ambulance, police, fire crews and paramedics were part of the huge emergency service response sent out to the two-vehicle crash on the B4391 near Llangynog on Wednesday at around 4.20pm.
The crash forced one car off the road and sent it rolling down a steep slope before it came to a stop on a farm track more than 100m down the incline.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Bala while a crew from Mid Wales Fire and Rescue Service also arrived at the scene a few minutes after the incident happened.
Due to the precarious nature and location of the incident, mountain rescue experts were called upon to carry a challenging ‘rope rescue’ to save the person thought to be trapped in the vehicle which had rolled down the slope.
However, when rescuers managed to get down to the vehicle they found it empty.
The person believed to be trapped inside the car was later located at a nearby village where they were treated by the Welsh Ambulance services.
Dyfed-Powys Police said that in total four people were treated for injuries following the crash, though none are believed to be life-threatening.
Officers are urging anyone who may have dashcam footage or who may have witnessed the crash to get in touch.
A spokesman for North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) said: “On Wednesday evening Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team requested assistance with a possible serious ‘Rope Rescue’ on the B4391. Police, Fire and Ambulance were already there.
“A vehicle had left the road and rolled down a very steep slope, coming to rest on a farm track well over 100m down. It was thought that at least one person may be trapped.
“Soon after we arrived it became apparent that the car was empty and Aberdyfi, NEWSAR and Search and Rescue Dogs in Wales started a search to find the driver.
“Fortunately, he was found in a nearby village and attended to by Welsh Ambulance Services.”
Police were also called to the incident at approximately 4.20 pm after reports of a road traffic collision.
A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “The two vehicles involved in the collision on the B4391 near Llangynog, were a blue Vauxhall Astra and a grey BMW."
“Anyone who witnessed the manner of the driving of the vehicles involved, or anyone with dashcam footage of the cars involved, is asked to contact police.”
They are urging people to get in touch using the online chat or by calling 101 quoting the reference number: DP-20200909-233.
A Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) spokesperson said: “We responded with one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance our crews were assisted by the Wales Air Ambulance."
WAS confirmed one patient was transported by road ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment following the incident.
A spokesman for the Welsh Air Ambulance said: "Our Caernarfon-based helicopter was mobile at 19.42 and arrived at the incident at 20.04. Following treatment from our medics, we left the scene at 20.51."
