Apple is a company that is known for its design philosophy. Be it the products its design or retail stores, the Cupertino-based tech giant lays extra emphasis on design. A report by Bloomberg now says that Apple has designed special face masks for its employees.

As per the report, the mask is called Apple Face Mask — not the iMask — and the company’s engineering and industrial design team developed it. A report by MacRumors also sheds more light on the mask as an Apple employee reportedly sent an image to the publication.

The Apple Face Mask has a three-layer design that can filter particles coming and in and out. The mask can be washed and reused up to five times, as per the report. The Bloomberg report states that according to Apple, the mask was designed after conducting “careful research and testing.” Apple said that it had to find appropriate materials to “filter the air while not disrupting supplies of medical personal protective equipment.”

The report states that Apple employees — corporate and retail — will start getting these masks over the next two weeks.

Earlier in April, Apple had announced that is designing and suppling face shields for health workers. Apple CEO Tim Cook had spoken about these face shields in a video message posted on Twitter. Cook said, “we’ve launched a company wide effort bringing together product designers, engineering operations, packaging teams, and our suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for health workers.”

Cook had showed a face shield in the video and said that the feedback from doctors was positive. Cook also explained that the face shield is easy to pack and assemble. “These [face shields] pack flat, 100 per box. Each shield is assembles in less than two minutes and is fully adjustable. We’re sourcing materials and manufacturing in the US and China.”
