Health minister Satyendar JainNEW DELHI: With a surge in Covid cases, Delhi government plans to increase the number of ICU beds in the hospitals, announced health minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday.
He added that the chief minister has directed authorities concerned to increase the number of ICU beds, while the hospitals have been asked to continue to focus on micro-management of Covid patients.
According to a government report, 688 of 1,212 ICU beds with ventilators and 656 of 977 beds without them were occupied in the government and private hospitals on Thursday.
The number of positive cases has crossed record high of 4,300 single-day mark, pushing the government to double the number of tests in the past week. Jain stated that the plasma therapy would continue to be used in the hospitals. He added that the plasma therapy has helped Covid patients in stage one or two of their treatment, but not those who were in the third stage or those on ventilators.
Meanwhile, the CM has been holding back -to-back review meeting with the officials and chiefs of the hospitals. A review meeting was held on Wednesday with chief secretary and other officials, including medical superintendents of Delhi government hospitals, where he asked them to ensure zero deaths.
