CHENNAI: A four-year-old boy was fatally run over by a speeding tanker truck at Pattinapakkam in Chennai on Friday morning.
Police identified the deceased as Pranesh of Taramani.
Around 8.15am, Pranesh was travelling with his grandparents on a two-wheeler from Ennore to Taramani. The boy's grandfather, Gopal, was riding the two-wheeler. The boy and his grandmother were riding pillion on it.
When the vehicle reached Pattinapakkam, a water tanker hit the two-wheeler from behind. In the impact, all three of them fell on the road, and the boy was run over by the tanker. He died on the spot.
Another motorist too suffered injuries. Pranesh's grandparents and the other motorist were rushed to Royepettah government hospital.
The tanker rammed a traffic signal too. Police said that though the driver fled from the spot he was caught later. The Adyar traffic police registered a case.
