Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane says he is bolstering his squad in order to compete for a place at the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in China.

Despite winning both the Absa Premiership and the Telkom Knockout this season, and preparing for the Nedbank Cup final against Celtic, Mosimane has continued to add more players to an already powerful squad.

The experienced tactician has explained that he will need a deep squad to compete in the CAF Champions League, where there will be a chance to qualify for the Club World Cup as well.

"We put the team in the Champions League again this year and now we must fight to be in the FIFA Club World Cup next year because there are three spots available for African teams‚" Mosimane told Sowetan Live.

"We are hoping that we make the semi-finals or the final during the coming season.

"Probably that is one of the reasons we are really strengthening the team‚ a lot of people will say why we are signing so many players.

"We have the African adventure that we are pursuing and not many people are pursuing that route.

"We need ammunition and numbers because I know about landing from Morocco on Monday and playing in Thohoyandou on Wednesday and leaving the next day.

"We can’t operate with a team where when Themba Zwane or Gaston Sirino are injured or suspended we are huffing and puffing."
