MEERUT: Meerut's divisional commissioner has asked all authorities concerned to ensure completion of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway by "December 31 at all costs". The fresh push comes days after Union Minister for MSMEs and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed through a tweet that the "Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be completed in December 2020".
The completion deadline has been shifted several times in the past, mainly due to issues related to land acquisition. But, of late, the Covid-19 outbreak has delayed the completion by another six months to December 31.
The operations had completely shut down after the March 23 lockdown only to resume with a curtailed staff in early May. Later, the rainy season delayed the construction work.
"With most of the issues resolved, there should not be any further delay in completion of the task," Anita Meshram, Meerut's divisional commissioner, said at an introspection meeting held recently.
