The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted permission for registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010 to Shri Harmandir Sahib based in Punjab. Home Minister Amit Shah has said that this decision will reflect the outstanding spirit of service to our Sikh sisters and brothers.
With the approval of FCRA, Mr. Harmandir Sahib will now be able to receive donations from abroad. This decision will be valid for five years. Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "Divinity of Shri Darbar Sahib empowers us." For decades, Sangat worldwide was unable to serve there. The Modi government's decision to allow FCRA for Shri Harmandir Sahib deepens the service's engagement between the world and Shri Darbar Sahib.
Amit Shah said, the decision on FCRA in Sri Harmandir Sahib is extremely decisive which will once again demonstrate the outstanding spirit of service to our Sikh sisters and brothers.
What is FCRA
The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) is a law enacted by the Parliament to regulate foreign contributions provided by certain individuals or organizations to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and others in India.
The FCRA Act was enacted in the year 1976. Violation of any of the provisions of FCRA can result in up to five years in jail or fine. The Act was amended in 2010 on a much larger scale.
