Bokaro: Even during rising numbers of coronavirus, authorities of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) went ahead and evicted squatters from their quarters. The PSU said the permission to evict came from the office of the Chas sub-divisional officer.
A BSL team along with a magistrate evacuated seven quarters of the company in Sector-2 on Wednesday. BSL spokesperson Manikant Dhan said, “Eviction notices were served by the Estate Court of BSL before the drive, but when they did not pay heed to it, they were evicted.”
BSL sources said the management identified at least a 100 illegally occupied quarters. The list of encroachers contains names of 47 policemen who are residing unlawfully, BSL said they too shall be evicted.
Dhan said, “In this phase of the drive, we will evacuate 23 quarters in Sector-1 areas, 20 in Sector-2 and 63 in Sector-12. The drive will continue until all illegally occupied quarters are evacuated.” Most of the encroachments are in Sector-12, among which the majority are policemen.
Till Tuesday, the total caseload in Bokaro stood at 2,661 of which 859 are still active while 1,786 have recovered. The district has also recorded 16 deaths so far.
