Provide training to the exam officials: Civils candidates appeal government

AMARAVATI: With the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declaring the civil services examinations schedule, the candidates from the state are worrying about the lack of training for the personnel manning the examination centres. The candidates are of the view that the officials and staff at the examination centres are tuned to conduct local examinations and hence often behaving against the rules prescribed by the UPSC. About 50000 candidates are expected to appear the prelims examination to be held on October, 4. Interestingly, UPSC has decided to continue four centres-Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Anantapuram and Tirupati to the state while many states have just one or two centres even in the covid-19 situation.
Although, getting more centres to appear the examinations is expected to benefit the candidates from the rural areas particularly during the covid-19 situation, the lack of awareness about the UPSC guidelines among the staff is creating panic among the candidates. The candidates are appealing the state government to appoint special officers to create awareness about the rules of UPSC which are completely different from other examinations including JEE, NEET. “In many cases, the staff at the examination centres are refusing to allow simple wrist watches despite permitted by the UPSC. Since time management is going to play very big role in clearing the toughest examination for the coveted services, absence of wrist watch will sure to spoil the chances,” said Niharika, a candidate gearing up for civil services prelims for second time.
With the officials are trained to handle the exams like Eamcet and JEE where the candidates will not be allowed to take the watches and other electronic gadgets inside the exam hall, the officials are applying the same rules to UPSC exams, she rued. Many candidates are complaining that staff at examination centres are also behaving rudely with the candidates only in AP where as their peers are happy with the situation in other states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. “Since UPSC is depending on the district collectors to oversee the arrangements, the state government should take the responsibility to train the staffers as it would help more candidates from the state clear the premier examinations,” said Harish, another candidate.
IMPORTANT RULES
* Use of normal or simple wrist watches by candidates is allowed inside the Examination Rooms/ Halls.
* However, use of watches fitted with any special accessory that might be used as communication device or smart watches is strictly prohibited and candidates are not allowed to take such watches into the Examination Rooms/ Halls.
* Candidates, who have opted for their own scribe, may note that their own scribe will be allowed for the Examination only with a separate e-Admit Card for such scribe.
* Wearing of mask/face cover is mandatory for all candidates. Candidates without mask/face cover will not be allowed entry into the Venue.
* Candidates, however, will have to remove their masks for verification, whenever required by the Examination functionaries.
* Entry into centres will be closed 10 minutes before the exam schedule.
