COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has been conducting final semester exams students online.
A total of 2,365 students of 10 UG programmes from 14 constituent colleges and 29 affiliated colleges of the university are writing the exams, which are being held from September 2 to September 14.
TNAU representatives said during normal exams, students used to write on campus using laptops and professors would invigilate in person. Now, as students were all in their home towns, they were writing an off-campus exam in online mode, they said.
The university also held two rounds of online mock tests to familiarise students, before going in for the actual exams. “We taught them how to write, how to behave, how to focus the camera, and also the dress code,” a university spokesperson told TOI.
The online exam has a two-tier invigilation. A team of faculty members would be invigilating the students online, and another team of senior faculty members would be keeping a watch on the whole process. “The entire exam sessions are supervised live online through proctoring by identified faculty on all days of exams to maintain transparency,” said a release from the TNAU.
“We have been holding the exam as per the directions issued by the state and the Centre. The purpose is to give degrees to final year students without delay, as they have to go for higher studies or pursue their careers,” the spokesperson said.
For the digital exams, the university has outsourced technology to the examination application named ‘Exam From Home’ (EFH), where students can use either mobile phones or laptops with Android or Microsoft Windows platform, said the release.
The application can be downloaded prior to exams and question papers would be made available at the scheduled start of exams on each day.
A code to access the question paper would be sent to individual students’ mail IDs 15 minutes before the start of the exam, it added.
Earlier, the university held online classes for students, the release said.
