The civic body is expecting to earn approximately Rs 1 crore per year with this moveCHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has identified 97 eateries with sufficient spaces outside their premises in the city. These eateries will be given permission to keep chairs and tables in the open for customers. A survey was conducted of all the commercial areas across the city by the enforcement department, which submitted a detailed report to the senior officers in this regard.
“Since majority of the markets, especially small booths, in the city have some space outside their shops to serve food to customers, but sectors 15 and 11 have the maximum number of such eatery booths and shops. Sector 15 eatery booths are famous among the youngsters,” said sources.
“We are going to give permission now, but since the Covid-19 cases are on the rise, it will be significant to see whether applicants come during this period or wait for the situation to turn normal,” said an official.
Since the MC has decided to give permission for lunch hours also, besides permission for evening hours, the civic body authority is expecting to earn approximately Rs one crore per year with this move.
“Earlier, the MC was giving permission for only late evening and night timings, but now it will give permission for lunch hours too, as the same was decided and approved by the general house in its July meeting,” said sources.
Permission for lunch hours will be from 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm and permission for dinner will be from 7 pm to 10 pm. The enforcement teams of the MC will regularly check these shops and also keep an eye over the timings to avoid any nuisance.
