Pune: Acting on complaints of inflated bills of coronavirus treatment in private hospitals, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to deduct a total of Rs 88 lakh after inspecting bills of COVID-19 patients.

Dr Manisha Naik, Assistant Health Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation informed that, from August to September 9, there were around 311 complaints lodged with the Pune Municipal Corporation regarding the billing amount is quoted over Rs 1.50 lakh while treating the patients of COVID-19. Out of these 311 complaints, 186 complaints they carried out an investigation that the private hospital had levied a staggering amount of Rs 5.45 crore. All these bills were examined by the team of doctors and auditors of Pune Municipal Corporation, out of which Rs 88 is now deducted.

Private hospital charge exorbitant bills which sum up the amount quoted for PPE kit, medicines, bed charges, doctor’s fee and more. There had been many complaints about private hospitals levying inflated bills of huge amounts for the treatment of coronavirus patients in the city.

The PMC has also appealed to the concerned patients and their relatives to lodge a complaint with the PMC if a bill of Rs 1.50 lakh or more has been levied on them while treating COVID-19 in a private hospital.
