Luck by Chance: Nurse wins beauty pageant during her visit to her grandmother
Miracles Happen When We Least Expect Them!
That’s exactly what happened to Lisa-Marie Tse when she won the beauty contest she entered by chance. “I went from a nurse gown to evening gown – and felt like a princess.” She exclaimed.
The 25-year-old, who graduated from Edinburgh Napier University, last year, worked as a theatre nurse at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, Scotland. She participated in the Miss Hong Kong contest while visiting her grandmother in Hong Kong.
The Scottish-Hong Konger has lived her entire life in Lanarkshire, Scotland and on her father’s insistence to explore and embrace her mixed-race heritage; she flew to visit her grandmother in June. “He always encouraged me to move to Hong Kong to explore my Chinese heritage,” she said, speaking to a source.
Lisa said she still can’t imagine she participated in a beauty contest as it had never been her comfort zone, but her father had dreamt of her participation in pageants even before she started walking. “I don’t normally wear make-up and don’t usually even dry my hair. I’m quite happy being dressed in surgical scrubs – they are very comfy, like pajamas. I like wearing flat shoes instead of heels. If I’m going out and plan to wear make-up, then my cousin or friend will usually have to do it for me. So, taking part in a beauty pageant was completely out of my comfort zone – but I’ve loved it.”
The beauty queen, who is quite passionate about her work and the opportunity to serve people, plans to continue doing the same even after her glorious reign. “I love being a nurse, I enjoy caring for people and I plan to keep up my nursing registration,” she said, adding that her friends back home are surprised and delighted by her astonishing win.
