BENGALURU: South Western Railway on Thursday increased the price of platform tickets at three major railway stations in the city by five times.
SWR officials said the price of platform tickets at three railway stations including KSR Bengaluru City, Yeshwanthpur and Bengaluru Cantonment has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 50 till further notice.
SWR claimed the hike was ‘to avoid crowds in view of Covid-19 pandemic’. Seven pairs of train services will start from the Bengaluru division from September 12. This is in addition to special trains which are already running. “There is an increased demand from the public for platform tickets as people have come inside railway stations/ platforms to drop and pick up such passengers as senior citizens, differently abled, children and students” said a release.
