GUMLA: A 28-year-old man was killed by contract killers hired by his father and stepmother, who wanted him out of the way so that his stepbrother could inherit the couple’s property, which includes a 12-acre plot of land, Gumla police said on Wednesday.
Busheshwar Oraon, a resident of Bhagni village under Sisai police station, was abducted by six men last Saturday and taken to Siyant Toli village, where he was strangulated and his body dumped into a well.
On the basis of a complaint filed Busheshwar’s brother Sukheshwar’s (25), police detained their father Birsu Oraon and stepmother Mangri Oraon for interrogation, during which the couple confessed that they hired the six killers. “On Saturday night, the couple had left the main door of the house open sio that the assassins could get in easily,” Gumla SP Hrudeep P Janardan said.
He added, “Mangri wanted to get Busheshwar killed as she wanted her son Parmeshwar to inherit their property. The couple agreed to pay the killers Rs 1 lakh to get the job done and an advance of Rs 75,000 was given to them.”
Parmeshwar, who lives in Bharno village and is a student of Sisai College, discussed the plot with his friends at college who conspired along with him, police said. He also helped the killers tie him up. “Two of the assassins, Habibullah Ansari and Irshad, have been arrested along with Birsu, Mangri and Parmeshwar. A total of 15 persons are accused in the case and raids are on to arrest the others,” Janardan said.
