Four Maoists were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in a forest on Odisha's Kandhamal-Kalahandi border on Wednesday. Sources in the Office of the Director-General of Police said that the Kalandi police conducted an operation yesterday in Kalahandi on the Kandhamal border based on intelligence. Two joint teams of Special Campaign Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) participated in the campaign.


He said that the joint team of SOG and DVF retaliated after heavy firing by Maoists at around 11 am today.

Firing continued between the two sides for about half an hour. During this time four Maoists were killed and one SOG jawan was injured. The injured jawan is being evacuated from the encounter site. Sources said that teams of SOG, DVF, and CRPF have been sent for a search operation.
