Playing the health card, fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi has filed another bail application citing 'severe depression.' So Nirav Modi's fragile mental health and the prison conditions in India were once again in focus. On the day 3 of Nirav Modi's extradition trial, that is on September 9, the UK Court discussed prison conditions. Relevantly, Nirav Modi, fighting extradition to India, is unlikely to get a fair trial there due to the politicisation of his case and he faces a "high risk of suicide" due to the lack of adequate medical facilities in Indian prisons, his legal team told a UK court on Tuesday, September 8. The 49-year-old fugitive diamond merchant is fighting extradition charges related to the estimated $2-billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and money laundering case brought by the Indian government at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.
